:yoiks: It would mysteriously reboot all by itself at weird times, but when I got up this morning, it had an error code on the front. I called the cable company, and they were puzzled by the error message. Apparently, it's not one they get on a regular basis. They said the box needs to be replaced, so I could either wait until Sunday for a tech to come out and replace it or I could take it by the cable office today. I NEEDS my cable, so I'll take it by today. :P
The drawback is that I had several episodes of shows still stored on it that I wanted to watch again. Guess I'll be watching them on the Internet instead.

2. I know. DVR is great when it works. |
|
:) I know several people with TiVo who love it, but DVR's fine with me.

3. That's happened to me, too |
|
and, I hate losing my favorite shows, especially since I never seem to get around to watching everything I've recorded (I recorded "The Constant Gardener" a week or two back, but just haven't been able to devote 2 hours to watching it)

4. when you do find the time |
|
you may end up regretting that you blocked out the 2 hours it takes to watch it. IMVHO, the movie had such potential but was overly long and relied too heavily on flashbacks that muddled the story.

6. I know exactly what you mean. |

:( Got the new box earlier, but my stuff's gone. The hard drive had crashed and everything was corrupted.

8. and, I kept getting different instructions on maintenance |
|
One technician said to make sure to turn it off for at least a few hours every night.
Another said to at least reboot it every once in a while.
Still another said, once I told him the previous conflicting stories, that I didn't have to bother with either method!
(The DVR system was built into our DISH Network receiver, so I'm not sure if it was related to DISH or DVR, but I got the impression it was the DVR)

7. Thanks for the suggestion....but the hard drive was the problem. |
|
 Apparently the hard drive crashed and burned. Everything was corrupted. The tech at the cable place ran it through diagnostics and said he'd have saved stuff if he could. I can find the stuff online, but I'd rather have it on the DVR. :( On the flip side, I've got cable again, and everything works fine again.

9. Our box bit the big one about three weeks after we got dish |
|
My wife was extremely upset, she lost all of her soap operas and I had a couple of movies I lost but it wasn't that bad. It's the closest thing we've came to having a serious disagreement, so far the new one has worked just fine. I want to get a dvd recorder to put stuff on, so I won't have to dodge flying shoes in the future.
