Girl with Down syndrome killed by Rottweiler

The backyard gate that was supposed to be locked was ajar, the garage's back door was open.

While mother Florence Pauley and her two other children slept, tiny Tiffany wandered out of the house early Thursday and into the damp morning.

Nobody knows what happened next, but authorities and family members think Tiffany walked about 200 yards up the street from her wood-framed ranch home and into an unfenced yard where at least five dogs were kept.

She walked to the back of the yard, past two other chained dogs to a Rottweiler on a 15-foot chain. Tiffany, 5, has a miniature French poodle of her own, and her family thinks she may have tried to pet the Rottweiler.

Mauled Girl's Mother On Probation

UPDATED: 6:33 pm EDT July 13, 2007

CLEM, Ga. -- Channel 2 has learned, the mother of a 5-year-old girl mauled to death by a Rottweiler has been arrested before on meth and driving under the influence charges. Investigators say her arrests may not be related to her daughter's death they are looking into it.

Police told Channel 2 reporter Diana Davis Friday that Florence Pauley was arrested on February 3 for possession of methamphetamines.

A five year old wandering the streets faces many dangers. Incredibly sad that lack of parental supervision contributed to her death.

9. i just report the reports of the news
i get my newslinks from horrible websites.

the dog mauled the kid. the mom didn't supervise the child.

but you know what, a beautiful child is dead. and that didn't need to happen.

that's the major sucky point.

and i can imagine the low rent environment of the community she probably lived in. the type of demographic that relishes in keeping 5 or 6 rotties and pits chained in a small yard strewn with cinderblocks and disassembled pieces of car engines.

and beer bottles. lots of beer bottles.

10. Here's a link to pics of area..not small yard and probably not low rent

aerial video shows the area too.

tragic & horrible.

Something that bothers me is the child didn't have any clothes on..did she go out like that, did the dog/dogs do that or did someone get in her house and take her since the door was unlocked and Mom had the meth problem?
