Ladies & gentlemen, Mr. Tom Sawyer & Mr. Huckleberry Finn

These are my new housemates. Tom is on the left and Huck is on the right. Tom was the runt of the litter but is now the stronger climber. He is also slightly more affectionate and more vocal and enjoys watching classic cartoons on TCM. Huck has more vibrant coloring and is more outgoing and outweighs Tom by two ounces. He doesn't appear to even notice the television.

After I lost my friend Amos back in May, I didn't want any more critters any time soon but my sister had taken in an abandoned pregnant cat that produced a litter of five back in April. When they were nine weeks old, I agreed to take Tom but wound up with both of them because I couldn't bear to separate the brothers. I've had them a few weeks now and I still can't figure out which one I like best.

2. I agree.
Tom was originally very wary of me but my boss suggested a trick to get a kitten to like you: hold him up and blow on his belly, like a "raspberry". It worked. As soon as I did that, he started purring and has been affectionate ever since.

4. What adorable kittens!
I couldn't make up my mind, either! LOL! I have a very difficult puppy, at the moment, but I actually think that kittens are the cutest baby animals... :-)

My puppy, Jack...:loveya:

6. I think I need to clip their claws before they are "Jack-safe"
Last night it looked like Tom caught Huck in the eye and Huck was screaming but there wasn't any blood. I think Tom actually caught a claw in Huck's second eyelid, or whatever that thing's called. They definitely need clipping.

14. I know that they definitely need clipping!

I still have a scratch on my knee that hasn't healed where one of them caught me. Actually, he squirmed away from me, so he fell, but it wasn't very far, but ripped into my knee on the way down... I'm not sure which one it was, since it hurt to much to notice, still does...:-(

Poor little Huck! And they definitely aren't "Jack safe." He's just really curious, so wants to get close to them, but I keep thinking of that poor little puppy that we saw at the vet who got scratched in the eye by his cat sibling at Christmas...;(

Jack needs his nails trimmed too, hope to take him for grooming this week, but he won't cut you. The kittens' claws are like tiny razors...:scared:

on edit: typo:blush:

15. Little Tom just jumps up on me with claws retracted
But Huck likes to dig in. Having said that, I am currently facing the prospect of Tom jumping on my lap. You know how the animals have a keen sense for proving us wrong. :scared:

16. They're both going to have to learn to do that, LOL.
Or they wont be sitting my lab again! Are you bleeding? At least Jack doesn't break the skin but he still gets into one of his biting moods and I'm going to have to cure him of that...:-(

9. Thanks. I'll need it.
They were in deep sleep when I went to bed but I woke up with Huck (or was it Tom?) attacking my feet under the covers at 5:30 this morning. That's something Amos did all the time and I was hoping it was just his personality quirk. Apparantly it's part of kitten nature. Oh bother. :hi:

8. Sweet
I love that cat tree thingy. That must have been really expensive. I wish I knew how to make one.

Beautiful kitties. :loveya:

10. It was $159 on the internets
You can see it here: http://www.cattreestore.com/A7802.htm
I figured it might save more money in vet bills if they stayed on that instead of getting into trouble around the house. They ignored it until I attached a $2.95 "Cat-dancer" toy that Rhiannon12866 had bought for them. They haven't realized yet that they should be attracted to more expensive things though they did play quite a bit with the box it came in. ;-)

11. *swoon*
I lovelovelove red kitties. Thank you for giving Tom and Huck a loving home! If I had it to do over again, we would never have separated The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger from his brother and best friend, Barley (who lives across the street with my sister-in-law and her family).

You have a good heart, and you don't need to choosen one kitty to like best. Love each for the unique joy he brings to your life.

13. They have completely different personalities...
But they are both very lovable. Huck always rushes to me (climbing on my head as try to write this) but Tom makes me go to him. There's a sadness vibe to Tom and whenever I worry about that he does something playful and crazy. I'll never figure them out but it'll be fun trying.
