Uh oh. LeftyKid wants a baby in the family. |
|
We were out shopping looking for something nice for the happy couple, and in every store he insisted on walking through the baby section, oohing and awwwing over any babies and admiring all the baby stuff.
Should I get him a doll and some doll stuff (he's old enough I don't think this would help,) or wait for him to get into something else? He seemed so excited about the whole baby thing, and I'm not about to have any babies (BTDT not about to do it again thanks) and we don't know anybody nearby who is anytime soon.

7. Does he magically produce babies that don't poop or cry? |
|
If he does, have him call me!
Otherwise LeftyKid's going to suffer for lack of babies.

8. You have a better idea about his "Magic" than I do... |
|
:hi:
But I'm pretty sure he has poop-free doggies...
:D

I told her what having a baby would do to our family-the crying, nights with no sleep, the dirty diapers, not having the money to go to the movies when we want to or going swimming, etc. And I let her know that a new baby would need more attention from me than she does and that it would "cut into her time". (With my kid, no one takes her time away from momma. No one.)
After a few times of hearing this she decided that she didn't want a baby in the family after all.

10. Maybe he's ready for a pet? |
|
A baby bunny or puppy might be easier to procure than a baby human.

If you don't already, letting help feed the cat and such might encourage his nurturing side. I think it's fantastic that he's interested caring for babies and/or animals. I wish every boy was encouraged to do so.

17. When he was much younger, he went through a phase where he wanted to carry his "baby" |
|
which, being a Teletubby, had a convenient handle on it's head, around all day. He carried it in a sling or the front pack a lot, occasionally let me know it needed changed or fed (he tried to "nurt" it himself a few times, but I guess he figured that wasn't working.) But that was years ago, and the last I'd heard about babies other than when he tries to talk to them when we're out and about. I'm going to watch him to see if this is a whim or if it's something I need to address.
He is always big into caring for animals though.

11. Get him one of those dolls they use to convince |
|
teenagers that they don't want a baby after all...the one that you have to actually take care of to get it to stop screaming. That'll cure him.

on the "no baby" thing. I was holding my breath through most of the post.
That boy needs a big damn dog.

20. Well, when are you going to get my big dog out here? |
|
:)
Hon, if for some crazy reason I ever suffer some sort of severe head trauma and forget that colic and washing diapers and breast engorgement all suck a big fat one, I promise you won't hear about it on DU first.

21. Why not get him a doll and doll clothes? |
|
I think it's better to go along with phases than hope the kid will grow out of them.
Who knows, he could grow up to be an OB/GYN... :P

22. He hasn't asked for one. |
|
We walked through toy departments today and he didn't pay any attention to them. I'll double check next time we're out shopping to see if he wants one.
