he's home now - we've made it (just about) through the first day.

12. Caretakers do get the crap end of the stick too.

Everyone thinks of the sick one. No one ever thinks of the full time caretaker. If this is going to be a LONG HAUL I hope you will grit your teeth and get away from it on a scheduled basis. Someone, somewhere has to come caretake on your behalf at least once a week for the whole day so you can walk away for awhile. If you can't find a volunteer see if insurance will cover a nursing assistant or call the social worker from the hospital and see if there is a charitable organization who can help. This is a matter of your sanity and you won't be any good to him if you fall apart.

You have to eat regular, you have to sleep comfortable. You have to have socialization IN PERSON, not just on the internet. If you have to get a friend to call you every single day and ask you -- what did you eat today, how much sleep did you get, how big is the pile of laundry etc.


Yes, I know lots of unsolicited and likely unwanted advice. Just my way of saying I care. :)
