Why is "Get Smart" being made into a movie?
What's wrong with the original TV series, the 1980 followup "The Nude Bomb", the 1988 ABC special "Get Smart Again!" or the underrated despite being slightly crude 1995 followup series on FOX?

3. "The good old American know-how" - those days are long gone too.
(Quote taken from the Get Smart season 4 episode entitled "Leadside". :) )

5. Anyone can do anything. Usually there are reasons why people don't.

6. Because absolutely every television show since the Golden Era
has to be brought to the big screen. It's like a rule or something.

Who will they cast as Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel in the I Love Lucy feature film?

7. Hollywood is running out of ideas....everything has been done!
Everything's been covered already, and they are putting out movies that pay tribute to 80's cartoons and dolls! Think about it....they are desperate for new ideas, and there are none out there.

14. I loved that scene! It was from the 1st season episode
"Hubert's Unfinshed Symphony" and that was the 'portable cone of silence'.

No, I didn't google it either.

9. It's certainly higher up on my list than a lot of TV remakes
I think Steve Carell is well cast in the role.

I mean, if they can re-do The Dukes of Hazzard...

12. Point taken - maybe it will be good.
I know I'll be seeing it in the theatre. And I don't often do that for a remake.

13. I don't think I'll be there opening weekend
and, probably will wait for DVD - as I do with most movies these days...

11. Blame it on Hymie...
Hymie, desolate and out of work when the original show was cancelled, created an army of mindless robots that took over corporate Hollywood. Bitter, because he had to move to Bakersfield, his mission was to destroy all creativity. His mission was a success, and as a result Hollywood has produced nothing but movies based on old t.v. shows and cartoons.

17. Niche market, I'd guess.
$40 for one year is a bit much, but they have been meticulously restored and spread out nicely on a 5 disc set. (Yup, I bought it.) The quality justifies the price.

I thought TV Land still aired them?

19. it's up to $99 for the first season (out of print already) or $230 for 5 seasons!
yow! I think that might have been the entire production budget for the original show!

18. One would think that with all the creative talent there is in the world,
a sorry rehash of a sitcom made into a movie would never see the light of day. Any writer on that project should be blackballed from the industry.
