Just watched ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN.
Great film. Funny, and yet really rather horrifying, when you think about all those motherfucking crooks. Nonetheless, I love Redford and Hoffman and I love the dialogue--so fast-paced and witty, really.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

1. One of my all-time favorites
Edited on Sun Jul-15-07 10:29 PM by Richardo
Since I was in high school during the whole Watergate affair, it actually explained a lot of what I was reading in the paper.

Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee is one of the best performances ever.

Glad you liked it - another political film by the same director (Alan J. Pakula) is 'The Parallax View' with Warren Beatty. That one did not age as well as ATPM by it's still a good political thriller.

2.  for sure
The first time I saw it was outside on the National Mall with a huge screen & thousands of people, I couldn't pay attention so I just didn't get it. But then I saw it on PBS lately and it's just gripping, this time I couldn't move until it ended.

And I'll totally crush on Hoffman

Wonder if films like that will someday be made showing exactly what's gone on behind the scenes lately, wonder which of our current 'journalists' will investigate people that important.

5. A great double-bill...
...All the President's Men and Dick. (You have to show them in that order, though.)

6. Great movie! Just great! I was in high school, and then in just-graduated
status during the Watergate years. I was rivited by it, so when the movie came out, I went to see it. Have a copy of it, too. Great stuff.

And the book is awesome.

So glad you got to see it.

It's definitely

7. Great movie
I was 10-12 when Watergate was going on.

I remember watching the Watergate hearings with my mom one summer. We were sewing (I was making a dress) and glued to the gavel-to-gavel coverage... on network TV, no less!

8. I wish it were longer
Say, 30 hours. :D

Seriously, every time I've watched it, which is a dozen or so, I've wondered in about three-fourths of the scenes, "What actually happened?" I want the mundane deets, which aren't mundane to a journo.

As docudramas go, it's up there with "Tora! Tora! Tora!" for authenticity. Even a lot of the dialogue is correct, such as my favorite, Ben Bradlee's "I can't do the reporting for my reporters, which means I have to trust them, and I hate trusting anybody. (pause) Run that baby."

(Second favorite: "Take out 'her tit' and give it to the desk. This is a family newspaper.")

9. I like when he says:
"...and I come on all sage and say 'Just wait, you'll see.' But the truth is I don't know what we got."
