A poem for mom

[The Straight Story]

Watching the sun set
I watched the light go out from my life

As I sat there in my own darkness
I missed your light in this world

The beauty of that sunset you left
Still brings tears to my eyes

I turned from the view and walked back inside
to myself

I turned on the lights
Their artificial glow but a taste of your light

I drank for hours
and then passed out

I awoke, not to the darkness
but to the light of a new day

You left
But your light did not

As I walk outside to see the sun rise
I know that your memories will light my way

You are missed.

2. I did write it, just now

Not sure why, I think part of it was inspired by your earlier thread about the sky and sunsets, plus my uncle dying today.

Life is weird - I have a heavy heart, and yet a light one. I still remember the first funeral I went to, it was where part of my innocence died.

And none of it bothered me for years, until the last few years where deaths have been like a blitzkrieg.

And as I get older, it seems like they pile up one after another in quick succession. I have lost count of all whom have passed on these last 3 years - lifelong friends and family.

I am so sick of funerals I could scream.

And now, part of me is getting used to it - and that is more scary to me than anything else I suppose.
