Tomorrow it is 6 years that my dad died
due to a brain tumor. I miss him a lot and I wish he would be still with us. He only turned 55.

With me shortly after I was born in 1975

One of my favorite pics of him.

I am sad that he can't see how I live my life. I know he would be proud of me. He would be proud of my position. I hate to think about getting married one day and he won't be there to "hand me over". I was his little girl and I loved him very much. When my parents separated I stayed with my dad. I was jealous of the first gf he had after my mom because for some time I was woman #1 in life. All he ever wanted was for me to be happy. Daddy, I am happy.

May he be at peace wherever he is right now. :loveya:

2. I am sorry
Edited on Tue Jul-17-07 02:30 AM by MissHoneychurch
losing your dad at age 14 must have been really hard. At least I was already 26 years old and lived my own life.

Edited to correct the grammar

5. Thanks OR

I have tears in my eyes right now as well. I miss him year around but around his anniversary of the death it is even harder. I remember the time before he died, how he went downhill so fast within half a year. But it also brings back good memories of that time when the family was together despite all problems. That showed me how important my family is to me. And even when there are problems when someone needs help the family is there.

7. Hey gf

I guess I will even miss him when I die (which is hopefully still many many years ahead). It should be forbidden for parents to die too early.

14. That was really good for you
love is so much better than hate. I know my brother had a more difficult relationship to my parents than I did. So I kinda understand you. When I told my brother what was going on with my dad he sat in the car and came to visit him right away. My brother lives in Berlin, my dad lived on the border to Switzerland. Make that an 8 to 9 hours drive.

He was a cool man. Very intelligent (didn't rub off too much on me), had a dry sense of humor. Very gentle man. Too gentle for this world.

13. My dad also died due to a brain tumor
but though I was 27, he was 75, and, like SeattleGirl it was a longer time ago, 29 years.
I had a Fathers' day card to send to him that June, with a picture of a block with a corner missing. It says 'from the chip, to the good old block', because he called me a chip off the old block.
He died a month before Fathers' day, so I still have that card.
I'm glad we had fathers we truly loved.

The other day I got a bunch of newspaper articles about my dad when he was a teen. He was a genius when it came to math and he attended the International Mathematical Olympics in the late 60s and got the third price. My grandmother collcted all the newspaper articles and when she had to go to a nursing home my aunt sent me all the stuff. I will continue to value it.

20. That's good that your grandmother collected the articles, and your aunt
sent them to you. Did your dad do work that involved math?
My mom is 92, and she was asking me to look up the addresses of some lost relatives and family friends who are younger than she is (when it was free to do people searches on the internet...I loved that) because she wanted to send old photos, books, and other memorabilia that pertained to them. Family history is interesting, and gives people a better sense of who they are.

22. Yes, my dad was a teacher at the university
and even wrote a book about a specific mathematical topic "Banach lattices and operators". You can look it up in the LoC :)

Family history is very interesting. My dad's dad did a family tree reaching back to the 17th century I believe. My mom's mom wrote down her memories of her childhood, WW2 and first years in the GDR. I have a copy and I think it very interesting.

27. Better
he got to spend 10 days in NYC with his brothers and sisters for a mini-reunion. They do this every 2-3 years. They are at the age when someone may be not be around much longer.

Gotta go to work. :hi:
