Sad visit with my grandmother
The major reason I went to Minnesota was to visit my grandmother, who is 90 years old and lives in a nursing home, if you can call that living. She had a stroke about a year and a half ago and for a while was doing okay, but her partner, Mike, died in January and it seems that she has sort of given up. She has congestive heart failure as well so that probably does not help.

She is very difficult to understand but I think she knows who we all are, even if she doesn't get the names right. I spent a total of 4-5 hours with her over 2 days. Some of it was good, some not so good. Now I wish I had spent more time there because I might not see her again. Then again, no one really expected her to live this long. So who knows?

2. Thanks
I feel sort of guilty for not staying longer but it was just hard.

4. Try not to feel guilty. She knows you love her and I'm sure she's thrilled you
came to visit. It is hard. I know.

5. It's hard to be getting to the point where it might be me that will be fading away.
My mother died at 71 years of age in March 1991.

That's my next benchmark -- a couple of years away.

I try not to think about it.

Exercising and dieting have increased my interest in keeping healthy.

No time like the present to do it.

We're going to visit my 84-year-old aunt in San Francisco in August.

She is my mother's younger sister, and WOW! She is one "hot ticket"...

Hug your grandmother and tell her you love her. At least, you thought enough of her to visit her.

In peace,

Radio Lady in Oregon

6. It's not something I look forward to either
I will hopefully die in an unfortunate skydiving accident or something and not linger like that.

But the people there are very nice and it is a great place.

She was very active until recently. I last saw her a year and half ago when she and some other relatives came to Texas for a vist. We went to the Alamo.

7. It's nice that you went out of your way to spend time with her.
I'm sure that it meant a great deal to her.
