Andy Dick truly is a dick
July 17, 2007 -- IT was fight night at an L.A. comedy club last week when Jon Lovitz roughed up Andy Dick over the murder of their "Saturday Night Live" colleague, Phil Hartman.

Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, who witnessed the assault, said, "Jon picked Andy up by the head and smashed him into the bar four or five times, and blood started pouring out of his nose." Lovitz told Page Six, "All the comedians are glad I did it because this guy is a hole."

Lovitz and Dick have been at loggerheads since a 1997 Christmas party at Hartman's house, five months before his troubled wife Brynn flipped out, fatally shooting Hartman, then killing herself. "Andy was doing cocaine, and he gave Brynn some after she had been sober for 10 years. Phil was furious about it - and then five months later he's dead," said Lovitz, adding that when he filled in on Hartman's "Newsradio" sitcom, "I told Andy, 'I wouldn't be here now if you hadn't given Brynn that cocaine.' "

Last year, Lovitz related, a drunken Dick strolled up to his table at Ago in West Hollywood, rudely downed his guests' peach liqueur drinks, and "looked at me and said, 'I put the "Phil Hartman hex" on you - you're the next one to die.' I said, 'What did you say?' and he repeated it. I wanted to punch his face in, but I don't hit women."

4. If Lovitz hated Dick so much, why did he take the Newsradio job?

15. I guess my head just works differently. Out of loyalty to a friend I would never >
> take a job working with a guy who helped get my friend and his wife killed.

17. I'd agree with you if he was working FOR him
but with him is a different story.

I can see why Lovitz did it in honor of his friend.

33. Hartmanns family personally asked him to take the job
So he did.

It was a big story at the time. He was very uncomfortable and declined to do it several times.

6. I thought I heard long ago
that Andy Dick also was giving drugs to some actor from Suddenly Susan (that Brooke Shields show) and the guy was in recovery (or something) and he killed himself shortly thereafter. Maybe I have that all wrong, it was years ago and what I read/heard may have not been true anway. But I swear Andy Dick was involved and someone killed himself.

9. I just looked up Suddenly Susan on imdb.com
And the actor was David Strickland. I still have no idea if the story I read/heard was true or not but I could swear it involved Andy Dick.

27. It did
Andy was doing drugs with him the night before. http://findadeath.com/Deceased/s/David%20Strickland/david_strickland.htm

I have a confession; I knew Andy Dick when he was a struggling comic actor in Chicago. His whole persona is an act, he stole most of it from a waiter who worked in the bar across the street from Second City (where Dick hung out). I worked there as well and saw the transformation, it was very weird and disturbing. :scared:

28. Wikipedia's take
"Strickland suffered from bipolar disorder <1> and had a history of drug and alcohol abuse. He was arrested in October 1998 for the possession of cocaine, pleaded no contest in December and was sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered into rehabilitation. He was due in court on the day of his death for a progress report.

News reports of events leading up to his death, at the age of 29, suggest that he had chosen to stop taking the lithium he was prescribed to control his bipolar disorder. He spent the last three days of his life on an alcohol and drug binge with a friend, actor Andy Dick.

Strickland checked in to the Oasis Motel in Las Vegas during the early hours of March 22, 1999. He consumed several bottles of beer and then hanged himself with a bed sheet over the ceiling beam. His body was discovered by a maid."

13. I tend to agree
with all assessments that Dick is a dick. I've watched him on different things (unintentially on some, stuck where I can't turn the station on other occasions) and it's quite apparent that he has a narcissistic personality and will do just about anything to command attention. And it's obvious that he doesn't mind negative attention--in fact, he seems to go for it.

Anyone who would give coke to a recovering addict should be arrested and charged with aiding and abetting and then later, in his case, be charged as an accessory to murder.

Insofar as he is concerned, he really, really needs to hit bottom and get the fuck out of the limelight.

Jon, I loves ya! :loveya: You've got taste. Andy Dick's got no... class. No dick either, especially after he abandoned the FOX sitcom "Get Smart" (1995) to do NBC's "Newsradio".

If it wasn't, Kimmel did a great job of turning it into a laugh.
