I never got into golf because when I was a kid, somebody told me I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground.

But you do have to practice.
After a while practice becomes fun.
It is a sickness.

and I don't want to offend him by tipping or lack thereof...
there are a ton of golf courses where I live so I should be able to practice with Mr. B...but I don't want him teaching me....sounds strange but I know it is better that way.

I have taught several gals to golf but none of them were my SO at the time. No one likes to be criticized by a loved one.
Gratuitous advice:
Swing hard and down on the ball. The club gets the ball in the air, not you scooping it into the air. I'm not kidding. Most gals don't swing hard enough. It isn't a sin to miss and it is more fun to take a real cut at it.
Cheers!

or the company is going to pay for the clubs go get fitted for clubs by a professional. I have no such luck of job or money but know a couple of people who have had it done. I don't know if it makes a difference in their game or not because they get to play everyday but it couldn't hurt. Tip the instructor guy if you like his advice even though he is payed well for what he does. Have fun!
