Is there such a thing as Geriatric Benadryl?
Since there's Baby Benadryl, I thought such a product might be on the market.

The future MIL has lost her mind, and is inviting Haruka's grandmother to the bridal shower. WTF?! Granny has increasingly bad dementia. But that's not the problem. Granny also likes to cuss and tell people to shut up. Hey, that's also not a problem. However... SHE'S A FLAMING HOMOPHOBE. At any moment she might break out with shrieks of "Insert Inappropriate Gay Slur Here!!!" and hit people with her cane. Thus, the need for Geriatric Benadryl. Or maybe just some Jamesons whiskey.

Everyone had decided that Granny didn't need to know about any of this.

She is totally NOT coming to the wedding.

:scared:

5. My suggestion:
a brownie (just one, or she'll just be paranoid) or a Valium. That should keep her relatively nice and upbeat.

7. Hmm -- I wonder if Valium will have a negative interaction with any of her meds

But, I want to meet Granny before she takes it.

I don't think the future MIL was thinking clearly when she said, "I'll just tell her you're moving in together. It'll be okay. She forgets everything the next day anyway."

10. Let her rip, people are more understanding about the elderly than you think
Don't shut her up just because she's rude-try to keep her on safe topics, and laugh gently at her verbal gaffes.

11. If you go that route
and there is something to be said for it, I would suggest appointing a friend or the mother in law as a "minder" to make sure she changes subjects as appropriate. Somebody other thant LiV and her fiancee. Its their event, they shouldn't have to worry about it.

12. It's a lesbian bridal shower and she's an ultra-conservative Catholic with dementia
There IS no safe topic.

Well, maybe kittens.

13. No, Granny need not know about any of this
You can dis-invite her - she probably won't even remember!

14. That's what I'm saying
Of course, Haruka's mom insists on holding it at her house and Granny lives there.
