Say something enthusiastic about Acer computers. Lie as necessary.
The Vaio notebook bit the dust for a second time. Rather than spend more than it's worth to get it repaired again, I picked up an Acer Aspire 3680-2633 http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/as3680.htm which seems to be not quite a total piece of crap, if not exactly a work of art. It came with Vista, but the young man who sold it to me offered to install XP for free. I have some thought that it may not quite have the juice for Vista, though so far I like it ok.

What are people's experiences with Acer? Keep in mind that "Oh God Never buy any of their crap!" type responses are a few hours too late.:)

1. They're the first name in computers!
Literally. In an alphabetical list, they come first of all the big computer companies.

2. I've heard mixed reviews.
I had one from '99 to '03 and it took an assload of punishment and mistreatment. Other people have copmlained to me about how shitty theirs are.

3. I looked at an Acer along with 2 Gateways, an HP, a Dell, and eMachines...
For the price and included components, Acer's wasn't overpriced and the Vista performance index was really good. I'd have bought it if I hadn't home-built my own machine 9 months ago (whose specs are nearly identical with the exception of no DDR2 RAM and a GeForce 8800 video card)

It was a desktop PC, not a notebook - of which I'd always get the extended warranty...

5. I had one that lasted for years, was my first pentium (P60)
From there on out I have built my own.

I liked it, I ran it into the ground, gave it to my sister, and she used it for a long time before getting a new computer.

Now that said - what is important to me is what is inside as far as sound card, video, etc - I don't know what all Acer uses today out of the box.

If you just plan on surfing the net, watching movies, and using word/etc then it is hard to wrong with most systems these days.

Worst computers ever? Packard Bell (hell).

7. I have never used one, but this is some funny copy..
"Acer's acclaimed Folio design sports chic lines, smooth curves, and a cool metallic sheen that projects confidence and class"

Almost as bad as Apple. Actually, that is worse.

11. I had two hard drives fail on mine
But that may be the fault of whomever made the hard drives (it wasn't Acer). But the repairs were prompt and the people easy to deal with. And the help desk was NOT in Bangalore.
