A tornado warning here in New York? The sky is dark green...
I hear thunder, it started raining, and the radio just kicked in a tornado warning for the south shore of Long island.

It's gonna be a fun day.

1. I don't suppose you have a basement.
If you see anything, get to an interior bathroom or closet.

Hopefully it won't be bad.

4. Green sky is a sure warning for a funnel cloud
Just experienced one about a month ago at the other end of NY state. A very small F1 that rolled across the lake that we have a cottage on. Me and the dogs took cover in the bathtub.

Stay safe!

5. Actually, a green clouds mean
there is hail present in them. Not necessarily a funnel cloud. But, when a thunderstorm gets violent enough to produce that quanitiy of hail, a tornado is always a possibility.

7. We had tremendous hail
It lasted for a good eight minutes, and popped half dollar size holes in the hosta plants. Your right it must be the hail that makes the sky take on the green tint.

8. Hunker down, man!
We Texans can sure tell you something about green skies. We've been seeing enough of them lately. I'm so sick of them from the last two months I could puke.

Aaaaah spring!

Ya'll be safe, now.

13. Lotsa green skies around here...
it usually means one hell of a windy thunderstorm. Dunno where the green comes from, but it does foretell one who0mpin' big storm.

Not so bad this time, though. Little twister about 30-40 miles from here.

14. Missed me by 40 miles or so...
but I passed right by where it touched down.

VA hospital is an hour and a half drive from here so I left early, at the height of the storm. By the the time i got there, rain had stopped and floods were draining away. When I left, the sun was back out.

We get a lot of these flash storms around here that speed right through and head out to the ocean.
