Best Tour de France in years |
|
So far this race has been fantastic. I don't have a favorite and at this point I wouldn't even begin to try and pick a winner. The weekend stages were great but I think yesterday's stage was the best so far. Can't wait for the Pyrenees.

1. Those multiple attacks on the final climb were mesmerizing. |

I agree it's a great Tour so far. If there's anything I miss, it's a team (any team) that seems to be able to control the race and work the strategy to their advantage. Of course that used to be what Armstrong and Bruyneel were masterful at, but even CSC and T-Mobile had their plans work to perfection a few times each Tour. And there's no one like Fignon or Indurain these days who can choose to take a stage whenever they need it -- it's a much more level playing field, with a lot of young talent.
This year, you can see Discovery trying to set things up, but I don't see the motivation and overall strength to pull it off whenever they want. They might get one in the Pyrenees, but it'll have to be a perfect day for everyone on the team.
At this point, I'm impressed with the way Rabobank is riding to protect Rasmussen, and the way Caisse d'Epargne seems to be hanging around every stage, just waiting.
The Pyrenees might be the best four days of race watching I'll ever see.

2. I can see any of the top ten making a big move and winning |

Caisse seems to almost be running a stealth campaign.
That descent from the Col de Galibier looked scary. Can't imagine doing 30-40 on skinny tires through some of those turns.

3. It is fun to watch so far |
|
One of T-Mobile's riders who withdrew after a crash a few days ago had a drug test come back positive. Now rumors are that T-Mobile may drop sponsorship after the season of the team.

6. My evil cable company won't carry Versus in my town!! |
|
It happens to be Mediacom, a huge conglomerate that does carry Versus in other nearby towns and couldn't really give me a decent explanation why it won't carry it here. Just as an FYI, I live in a college town with a large number of cycling enthusiasts, just from what I see riding around the streets and trails locally...
