Need help finding a specific quote about poetry. |
|
Somebody in college told me that (a famous poet, I'm not certain but may have been Dylan Thomas, though that doesn't seem quite right) once defined poetry as "remarks made on the way to the grave."
Anybody got a lead on this, what the exact quote is and who said or wrote it? Thanks in advance.

I think the term "remarks" always got in my way.

Poetry. I like to think of it as statements made on the way to the grave. —Dylan Thomas

I find your behavior somewhat threatening.
I might have to get a restraining order on you.

6. Here's a better one anyway... |
|
"A poem is energy transferred from where the poet got it (he will have some several causations), by way of the poem itself to, all the way over to, the reader. . . . the poem itself must, at all points, be a high energy-construct and, at all points, an energy-discharge."
- Charles Olson, "Projective Verse" (1950 essay)
