Labrador vs Bicycle in Tour de France.
The lab shakes it off. The biker is probably still scooping up parts (his and the bike's). From experience I can say you really don't want to bump into a big ol yellow lab with anything less than a Volvo.

1. I'm amazed at how that wheel folded.
The dog, and rider are lucky he had a chance to break. Looks like he was going ~30MPH just before they collided.

2. Good grief!
That must explain why the coverage yesterday surmised that Burghardt had to drop from the race, when it turned out that Rogers did. I guess they had reason to believe it could have been Burghardt.

And I guess that's what happens to a carbon wheel, the way it just cracked in half. Built for strength coming straight on, not at all for force from the side.

9. That's EXACTLY the deal with carbon fiber components -
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 03:19 PM by bullwinkle428
incredibly strong in one dimension, but rather brittle and weak in other dimensions. For a really graphic example, look at this video of Robert Kubica's crash in a recent Formula 1 race...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x4CB2Vanro&mode=related&search=

It's actually the shattering of all of these carbon fiber components that disperses the energy of the accident without transferring it to the driver...he escaped this crash with a very mild concussion and a sprained ankle! :wow:

3. I saw that and I wonder if that dog is really okay.
Just like people can walk away from an accident but within an hour are at the ER with bona fide serious injuries.

6. He looked only slightly embarrassed to me...The rider had slowed significantly.

4. Thank god the dog is ok!
As soon as the news started the clip I turned the channel - couldn't bear to watch.
I live near a nature trail and see cyclists squash rabbits, raccoons and have injured dogs in the past ... :(

8. Burghardt is still riding...the other T-Mobile rider (who hit a person) isn't
Patrik Sinkewitz had to withdraw after he crashed into a spectator while riding to his hotel after Stage 8.
