Not likely to win any awards, I suppose, and I don't know how faithful it is to the actual events surrounding Parsons's burial, but I thought it was a pretty good movie about friendship, music, life/death, etc.

Hooray for Gram Parsons :toast:

15. Itchycoo Park
by The Small Faces.

Over bridge of sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under dreamin' spires
To Itchycoo Park, that's where I've been

What did you do there?
I got high
What did you feel there?
Well I cried
But why the tears there?
I'll tell you why
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful

I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun

Tell you what I'll do (what will you do?)
I'd like to go there now with you
You can miss out school (won't that be cool)
Why go to learn the words of fools?
What will we do there?
We'll get high
What will we touch there?
We'll touch the sky
But why the tears then?
I'll tell you why

It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful

I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun

It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
It's all too beautiful
Ha! It's all too beautiful

17. "Incense and Peppermints," which I recently saw performed live.
A band in San Diego called "Cool Fever" features the drummer (Randy Seol) from Strawberry Alarm Clock. He played on the original recording of "Incense and Peppermints." They did a free concert at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park in San Diego, and as part of the concert they did "Incense and Peppermints" and Randy sang the lead vocal. It was great.

38. Trivia
The music was written by Ed King, who played guitar for Strawberry Alarm Clock. He wrote it as an instrumental, but the record company forced them to paste lyrics on it to make it more radio-friendly. King was not happy about it, and years later when he was in Lynyrd Skynyrd, he co-wrote the music to 'Sweet Home Alabama' (he plays the brilliant solo) to "get my money back."

37. Live and Let Live, by Arthur Lee
Oh, the snot has caked against my pants
It has turned into crystal
There's a bluebird sitting on a branch
I guess I'll take my pistol
I've got it in my hand
Because he's on my land
And so the story ended
Do you know it oh so well
Well should you need I'll tell you
The end-end-end-end-end-end-end-end
And...

Yes I've seen you sitting on the couch
I recognize your artillery
I have seen you many times before
Once when I was an Indian
And I was on my land
Why can't you understand

Served my time
Served it well
You made my soul
A cell...

Write the rules
In the sky
But ask your leaders
Why...
Why...

Oh, the snot has caked against my pants
It has turned into crystal
There's a bluebird sitting on a branch
I guess I'll take my pistol
I've got it in my hand
Because he's on my land
And so the story ended
Do you know it oh so well
Well should you need I'll tell you
The end-end-end-end-end-end-end-end
And...

Served my time
Served it well
You made my soul
A cell...

46. Youngbloods - Get Together
Didn't want to put it under the mention above :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daDcEc_ktQk

Youngbloods - Get Together

Love is but a song we sing
fears' the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
or make the angels cry

Though the bird is on the wing
and you may not know why

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
everybody get together
and try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go
He will surely pass
When the one that left us here
returns for us at last
We are but a moment's sunlight
fading in the grass

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
everybody get together
try to love one another right now

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
everybody get together
try to love one another right now

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
everybody get together
try to love one another right now

If you hear the song I sing
you will understand...listen
You hold the key to love and fear
all in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
Its there at your command

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
Everybody get together
try to love one another right now

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
Everybody get together
try to love one another right now

I said.....

*Come on people now
smile on your brother
Everybody get together
try to love one another right now
right now
right now

Totally .. :D

47. "Almost Cut My Hair" by CSN&Y (letting my freak flag fly)
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin' kind of long
I could've said it was in my way

But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin' kind of long
I could've said it was in my way

But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it, ... someone

Must be because I had the flu for Christmas
And I'm not feeling up to par
It increases my paranoia
Like looking in my mirror and seeing a police car

Well I'm not giving in an inch to fear
çause I've promised myself this year
I feel like I owe it, ... someone

When I finally get myself together
I'm gonna get down in that sunny southern weather

And I'm goin' to find a space inside to laugh,
Separate the wheat from the chaff
I feel ...
Like I owe it, ... someone, yeah

Written by Powell St John, I believe. Although "You're Gonna Miss Me" is more hard-rocking--& still sounds pretty good.

Or maybe "Mendocino" by the Sir Douglas Quintet. (Lots of their post-"She's About a Mover" stuff was psycho-delic.)

Quintessential. If you don't know it, you weren't there.

67. "Witchi Tai To" by Everything Is Everything (Jim Pepper) is one that comes to mind

Also "Have Another Hit" by Quicksilver and "Keep It Warm" by Flo and Eddie.

Many of the ones some of you have already mentioned are others that I think of as well. And I'd probably vote 'Honorable Mention' to any song with lyrics including the word 'groovy' (or any of its derivations) or 'San Francisco.'
