Has anyone taken Chantix to quit smoking? |
|
I'm just wondering if anyone had any problems with the possible side effects:
nausea (may persist for several months); stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, constipation, gas; weakness, tired feeling; increased appetite; unpleasant taste in your mouth; headache; or sleep problems (insomnia) or unusual dreams.
I quit smoking a couple of years ago for a few months and then started again. It's been a lot harder to quit this time, so my doctor suggested Chantix. I'm just wondering if anyone else took it and if they thought it was a big help or if the side effects were a problem.

1. I started it 3 weeks ago |
|
And no smokes for 2 weeks. I had some nausea in the beginning that seems to have subsided and now I am fart-o-matic. I am tired but that might be due to not having my smoke uplift when driving. I have had some insomnia issues, being really tired but not able to fall asleep. And the weird dreams. Mine are usually weird anyway but these are....WEIRD. And I haven't had any homicidal thoughts unlike previous attempts to quit. :P
Of course we're all different, so maybe I'm lucky.

2. It's the insomnia I'm concerned about. |

I already have a lot of trouble sleeping. Weird dreams? They could liven up my dream life--as long as I don't wake up screaming. How many hours before you go to bed do you take your last dose?

I've though about taking it earlier. After work I go to the gym and take it at home around 7:00 before eating and usually go to bed around 10:30 or so. I'm not sure I want to take it before exercising since I did have nausea at first, I wonder if moving around a lot will bring that back and it would be worse. I'll never know until I try so I might as well risk it one day.
I've never had a wake up screaming dream, they're just really strange. You could ask your doctor about sleep aids while taking the chantix, or maybe you already take something since you currently have trouble. I always try to do something that doesn't involve moving around toward bedtime, but you might already do stuff like that too.
BTW there's a smoking cessation group on the site in case you didn't know, you might get a better variety of responses. There's at least one chantix thread.
