So I am laying in ER and being interviewed by "hospitalist" |
|
answering the usual medical history questions for the 3rd time.
"What surgeries have you had?" I answer and state the one & only surgery I had. He says - "you still have appendix" - yes, "you still have your gallbladder" - yes, "did you have any C-sections" - no, I wanted to say I already answered what surgeries I had and you do not have to questions me about all possibilities - I know what surgery is!
But to top it off, about 15 minutes into the interview, he looks at my husband sitting across from me and says = "How is her hearing?" and I interrupted and said "I heard that". My DH laughed but this so-called doctor didn't and asked my husband again - "can you tell me how her hearing is?"

2. I really hate clueless doctors |
|
who pull that shit. x(
If they're too dumb or distracted to listen, and too rude to ask me directly (once) then I don't want them as my doctor.

Yes I am OK... bruised on hands, elbows, stomach from IVs and hurting from the rash/pain of shingles, but OK. :)

I'm going to ask, are you at Waukesha Memorial? I HATE the whole "hospitalist" bullshit. I hope it's nothing serious bringing you there and that you feel better soon. At least you're laughing about it, that's a good sign, right?

7. I hate the health care system... totally inefficient! |
|
And they think they are doing better with this "hospitalist" - yeah, right. I was Community Memorial Meno Falls.
And yes, there are some things to laugh at with this hospital visit, but also scary enough to really make me want to stay away!

I'd probably strangle the clueless moran. Or pull him down right in my face and yell very loudly in his ear, "MY HEARING IS FINE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!"
Hope you're okay, though. :hi:

I am OK except for the treatment they gave me as a precaution was for heart attack, which I didn't believe was correct because the ER Doc said tests were negative, but they said they had to admit me.
They continued to try to give me "heart attack" medications until about 15 hours later because the hospitalist or cardiologist hadn't seen me yet (come on, how long do they treat somebody with all negative test results with meds?).
I refused the meds and argued to get the H out of there. They bruised me, abused me, poked me and fed my body unnecessary medications - one blood thinner medication was injected directly into my stomach! I had even signed a discharge from the hospital that protected their ass - called an "AMA' - "against medical advice", but just then, the hospitalist showed up. He released me the regular way and thought I just had a severe case of acid reflux and sent me home with script for Protonix.
But 2 nights ago I broke out with a blistering rash and knew it was what one of the "lowly" nurses mentioned. I have shingles. OUCH! It hurts!

My sympathies. I've never had it but I know some that have and it sucks. Take good care of yourself.

9. File a complaint about him. |

These newbies need to be "broken in" and the only way to do it is with a trip to the woodshed.

10. Well, I know in the case of my mother, she has trouble remembering stuff so |
|
she might say she had one surgery or two, but then when they asked those questions she'd remember she had her gallbladder out, etc. My uncle would insist he could hear just fine ("they just mumble too much on t.v.!") and my aunt would have to be the one to tell him that the t.v. volume was up all the way. So maybe the doctor works with a lot of people like my mom and my uncle.
Still annoying of course, but maybe there's a reason for it.

13. I'm not old nor forgetful... |
|
And this was after they asked what meds I take and I could tell them the name and dose of each.
And after the ER nurse asked the exact same questions, filled out the answers - then the ER Dr. asked the same questions and filled out the answers.
There comes a point where their practice is based on what their insurance requires - CORPORATE MEDICINE.
I understand in some cases there may be a reason for it, but to ask me questions for 14 or 15 minutes, THEN turn to my husband and ask how my hearing was? Com'on!

17. I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to imply |
|
that *you* were old or forgetful. Just that if the doctor works with a lot of people who are they may be in the habit of asking those questions. It's definitely annoying though. :hi:

15. It used to be that July 1 was when all the doctors took their new positions |
|
as interns or residents, thus July was when you were treated by people with the least experience.

16. He definitely was not an intern or resident |
|
The clinic "I USED TO GO TO" up to this point didn't want the docs at the clinic to be called to the hospital to see their patients (it cost them too much in lost appointments and rescheduling).
So they hired a small group of "experienced" docs to remain in hospital to do the rounds on all the patients from their clinic. This is the new way clinics are managing their patients who are in the hospital - supposed to give you "better care".

When my dad was dying of cancer he was in the hospital for a week and his doctor of many, many years never even came to the hospital. It was very upsetting to my mom so she called the doctor a few weeks later. He hadn't even been informed that my dad had died.

19. Shingles can affect your hearing and sight. |
|
He was actually being pretty thorough,'cause most people don't always recognize that they can't hear as well as they used to. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
