The X-Files 2 movie coming
http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article2779435.ece

Ex-files no longer: Partners once more
In the five years since they last struggled with the supernatural in the X Files, the careers of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have diverged: he has struggled to find good projects, she has been acclaimed. Now they are to be reunited in the roles that made them.

This could be good but I have serious doubts since the series died a painful death in the last few seasons. As long as it's only about Mulder & Scully and not the other characters introduced after the show jumped the shark in the 6th season.

1. Can't wait.
I wouldn't mind if Robert Patrick (Agt. Doggett) made an appearance. He was pretty good, but it really should be all about Scully and Mulder.

6. Doggett and Reyes (to a lesser extent) were pretty underrated.
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 10:59 AM by primate1
Those last few seasons were actually pretty good. The monster of the week episodes became good again in the last two seasons (they were lame as hell in 6 and 7...like the wrestling one with Kathy Griffin, for example), and Mulder and Scully were never really that far from the show plotwise.

2. I'll go see it.
I hung on to the bitter end with that show. I kept hoping it would get better again, and then they killed it. But yes, I'd definitely be willing to see what they do with the second movie.

3. It would be good if they did a more 'Paranormal Plot' instead of all that...
UFO/Govt. conspiracy stuff too...

I always liked the stand alone paranormal stories better during the series.

I look forward to hearing more about it. :)

5. I'm of the opposite opinion. The conspiracy episodes were epic.
But they are planning to make the movie a standalone movie like the monster of the week episodes.

18. There's a song I heard a couple times about 'the aliens all wore business suits...'
Always expected to hear it on X Files.

If the lyrics are true, good fodder for drama AND explain a lot about the world today.

Mulder was RIGHT! ;)

16. Four things that MUST NOT be in the film, or it will suck
1. Shape-changing aliens
2. Any reference to Scully's cancer
3. Any reference to Scully's infertility/child
4. Tea Leoni

The inclusion of any of these would make the film irredeemably horrible.

23. I would prefer that to Carter's other already-exhaused story arcs
Over the course of the series there was far too much build-up with far too little payoff for me to be interested in yet another two hour journey to "right back where we started from" (with apologies to Maxine Nightengale, of course).

26. Oooh. Now that's a good question
I was initially thinking only of the series' interminable arcs, but if we picked up from the last film then it's another matter.

I guess that if we walked away with some kind of clear resolution to at least some part of something, I'd be happy.

30. I just saw the series finlae a few weeks ago. To be honest, picking up where the other movie
left off means going through everything in the show we've already seen, but to pick up where the series left off is to go on without most of the interesting minor characters who all died.

My guess is they will pick up where the other movie left off, rehash old stuff and bring back everyone.

And they will all look olllllldddddd.

Asked to confirm earlier reports that the movie would be a standalone story, and not part of the larger mythology arc of the series, replied "It should be. It should be a one-off, yeah."

http://movies.ign.com/articles/805/805046p1.html

Also:
The script has not been written, but the idea is in place. "We're not going into the mythology ," Spotnitz added, saying it will be more like a stand-alone episode. "Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that."

44. I agree
And as the lovely and talented House of Kewpie wisely pointed out at dinner last night, the series went into a nosedive as soon as they tried to involve Scully and Mulder's personal lives in the arc of the X-files.

I have to concur; it was a lame gamble that yielded only lameness by focusing all subesequent conspiracies on whether or not Mulder's dad was a bastard and whether or not Scully could have kids.

The one shots, throughout the entire course of the series, were better than the arcs IMO.

27. The worst being the Samantha Mulder story
The whole series was based upon Mulder's search to find her abducted sister and they totally crapped out on that resolution.

20. it's unfortunate most of the best characters are dead
CGB Spender, Alex Krycek, Mr X, Deep Throat, The Well-Manicured Man, Jeffrey Spender, Marita Covarrubias, Jose Chung.

No one left but Skinner and The Lone Gunmen. I feel old now as the X-Files make me feel nostalgic for my care free Gen X 20's years when I eagerly anticipated a Friday night in my dirty SF flat with pizza & beer and Mulder & Scully. Ah, those were the days!

Boy, talk about a disappointing character... I kept expecting him to use his otherworldly
powers to call together all things watery and as close as he ever got was taking his shirt
off. :eyes:

I'm thinking the only reason he was on the show was to draw an audience from the cartoon
demographic.

40. About 5 years too late.
I liked the X-Files, though didn't watch the last few seasons. However, I would have been excited to see another X-Files movie . . . in 2002.

I see the potential for greatness, but I hope they do more with the characters than rehash the same conspiracy shit.

Scooby Doo with Mulder and Scully isn't likely to be good either. The other movie was allegedly also scary and had 'monsters,' but was also filled with obscure conspiracy.

And no. I'm not hanging on your every word. Sorry.
