Movie based on a book that was really good |
|
either "Apocolypse Now" which is taken from the novella "Heart Of Darkness" or "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams that is from the book by Richard Matheson.

I know, it's much-reviled here on DU, but I found it to be an excellent treatment and a thoroughly enjoyable film.

9. The Harry Potter movies have been good |
|
Especially the movies based on books 1, 2, and 5. Nothing can compare to the books, though. Everyone have a good weekend! I'll be doing a lot of reading. :hi:

10. What Dreams May Come wa a shitty, shitty movie. |
|
It was soooooooooo cheesy!
Robin Williams gets killed in the most over the top fashion ever. The daughter winds up as an asian woman in heaven. The mother goes to hell why? Hell is just a rip off of Dore woodcuts plus lawyer jokes.
I think the real hell is that movie over and over again.

Here's a car inexplicably barrelrolling through the air. That symbolizes the inevitablity of death. Plus a stuntman with too much time on his hands.
Here's a tree with unnaturally colored flowers. That symbolizes directors who abuse CGI.
Here's a Thomas Kinkade painting. That symbolizes heaven, which is like a trip to the mall on acid.
Here's a ship with the name Cereberus. That symbolizes the mythical three headed dog cerberus that guards the entrance to Hades, but it was too much work to do an actual three headed dog.
Here's a bunch of faces frozen in the ground. That symbolizes Dore's depiction of Dante's Stygia, because they were too lazy to come up with their own concepts of hell, so much so there's an actual copy of a seperate woodcut of Dore's, hanging on the wall back in the real world.

22. actually, every single color in the movie has a meaning |
|
and I mean EVERY color. Plates, clothes, nature, EVERYTHING
And the hell part - that was Annie's version of hell. If you looked on the wall behind her as she was about to commit suicide, there is a depiction of hell - in the movie (and in the book) every has their own heaven or own hell, that was what she thought hell would be like, so viola

18. 'The Lathe of Heaven,' 'Fail Safe,' 'The World According to Garp' |
|
In the case of the former, not the dog-awful A&E movie of a few years ago, but the 1980 original (which was, I believe, produced by WNET in New York for PBS).
