I don't know if I can do my gig tonight (need some vibes)
As I posted in this thread, I have a big gig in a few hours. but I don't know if I can do it now.

I had a blow up with the woman I thought was my girlfriend last night. No need for details but when I tried to talk to her she hung up on me. Because of my mood situation, this has totally wrecked me. I didn't sleep last night, I can't eat today, I can't do much of anything but type right now. I called her at work this morning and told her to stay away from the show tonight because she'll just make me feel worse.

I don't know what to do. I have to shower, pick up my gear, go to the venue, set up and play. I can't fucking move.

Please send me some good vibes.

1. Push through and go to the gig!!
You can do it and people are depending on you to be there.

I'm sorry you had a flare up with your girl but you will get through this!

Go to the gig and flirt with other women!! ;)

Have fun, keep your commitment and make some money!

Hang in there!!

What instrument do you play?

2. The show
must go on. Take what you are feeling and pour it into your presentation. It will be different but it will be true. It will be you.

6. That's what I was gonna say... put that emotion into the performance.
Leave it ALL out on the stage.

And YES - flirt with the chicks in the audience! It'll make ya feel better.

3. That's hard but you can do it
Put the emotion into the music - it will help let it out and you'll be fulfilling your obligation at the same time.

Strength to you.

4. If They're Paying You Gotta Show Up
And even if they aren't paying you gotta show up.

After all, isn't that why we play in the first place, because we have to? Because nothing else in life is better than playing?

Playing a gig is a great opportunity to forget about everything that's on your mind and lose yourself in the moment.

5. I have been there so many times... here's what I do...
move slow. As slow as you need to. Even if it takes a few minutes to cross the room, do it.

Be humble. What you experienced was very difficult, so just stick to yourself. Don't push yourself any harder than your body will allow or try to be more gregarious than you need to be.

And here's some hugs and some encouragement. It is just one day... there will be many more to come. I know you can do this.

13. just popped a beta blocker and settling down a bit
(doctor prescribed)

I got my gear mostly packed, now I just have to get to the shower get dressed and work on getting to the gig. I'm trying to stop my urge to cut but I've done it four times today so I'm losing on that one. :(

I'm still too nervous to eat but I've got enough fat to survive off of. I just have to get cleaned up and get going. Damn this is difficult.

thanks y'all

15. If not too late:
Do the gig. If you don't, you might feel worse.

And if you do, you might feel better for the accomplishment.

Push through the pain. You have something to offer to the people who listen to your music. You might just make someone's day!

18. Here's an update
I ended up doing it last night. And it went pretty well.

I ended up locking myself out of my apartment while loading my car (one of the side effects of my meds is short-term memory loss, as well as Parkinson's-like tremors, so now I play like Neil Young). Thankfully, one of my co-tenants came along five minutes later and I got back in. I also started getting ready two hours before show time, so I wasn't rushed and didn't have time to panic when I locked myself out.

A lot of my friends were there, and they brought friends too, so I had a pretty good audience. One of my neighbors who I've been crushing on since last December came, and I winked at her several times. She smiled at me the whole time, and even snapped a picture of me on her phone, so that did wonders for my self-esteem! I also made $21 in tips, which is more than I've made at some "paying" gigs and supposedly good nightclubs in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Plus, I called my bestest female friend, DUer Sugar Smack, right before I went on, and she gave me a GREAT pep-talk! She's been a rock through this whole thing, and has been my biggest fan. I can't say enough good things about her-- but you guys already know how cool she is!

Overall it went pretty well. I made my share of screw-ups but most people didn't notice. The booking agent said I did well, and my band and I are going to play there in August.

I am really glad I decided to do it. If I hadn't I have a feeling I would have ended up going to the hospital last night.

Thanks everybody for your support. You guys are the BEST :grouphug:
