3. My son is upstairs reading it now. We just got home 30 minutes ago. |
|
Guess who was the first person in the 300-person-long line at the local WalMart? The youth director at the Southern Baptist Church in my hometown, with his wife, and his wife's two sisters. They cheered when the books came out on the pallet. (There were plenty of books to go around...there must have been five-hundred on that pallet.)
My son began reading in the car on the way home, and he's upstairs reading in bed now. I'm hoping he falls asleep soon, so that I can go pry his fingers off of it and then I can start reading it. I already have a glass of muscadine wine sitting on the bar, to take to bed with the book.
I'm glad it was great. Can't wait to dig into it!

6. That's what I should have done! |
|
But the price marked on the books was $34.99. I was thinking, "Whoa!" until we got to the register, and the book rang up for $18. I started to run back and get another copy! :D
Yeah, the youth director and everyone in his group got a book. Which I thought was funny, because Southern Baptists are supposedly "against" Harry Potter. Evidently not so...we were about 15th in line, and it was funny watching the youth director and his wife and her sisters squeal when the pallet came out.

I told him to read to me as I was driving us home. He said, "Mom, I'll read you the first paragraph, but I really can't concentrate with you bothering me."

Boy, you must be a really fast reader. I started it in the drive-thru at Whataburger. Time now to unplug the phone, the radio and the computer.
See you in 48 hours or so...

16. Wow. Just finished it. |
|
It didn't end at all the way I expected!
This one read like the "Perils of Pauline". It was a blooming marathon, because I just kept turning the pages to find out how on earth they were going to get out of that one.
And I bawled my eyes out when Harry does --- you know that thing he has to do --- at the seaside. Terrific weepy moment that can be compared to - nah. I won't say it. That would be a spoiler.
Just take a box of Kleenex.

19. How can you even say that? |
|
I'm not trying to be rude honestly, but I just can't see anyone older than 12 thinking this was in anyway a good book? I can see the kids thinking it's good simply because of the hype. I would really like to know how or what made it good? I am probably a bigger Harry Potter dork than almost anyone here, and I am just in tears about how bad it was.

21. Because that's what I think. |

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it but I liked it quite a bit. It had everything I liked about the entire series. It summed up everything quite nicely. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I cringed. I enjoyed every bit of it and I hate that it's over. As you can't see why I think it was good, I don't see how you could think it was bad. Everyone is different.

22. But i can tell you exactly why it was bad *Spoiler* |
|
We have been waiting for so much to happen in this book.
1. We have been told Ginny is an exceptional witch. We watched her excel in the DA, and had many other examples how great she is. Not in book 7.
2. We have always known there is a great secret with Snape and Dumbledore, and that Snape is suppose to be a very powerful wizard. We get the secret in book 7 (although I am hoping everyone had already figured it out, no big surprise)Is he powerful in book 7 nope.
3. We were lead to believe by Rowling that we would find out so much more about the Dursley's. We found out that Dudley isn't such a prick, and Petunia wanted to go to Hogwarts. Big deal.
4. We have grown to love Neville and his growing strength. Neville is only at the very end of the book, and definitely should have been the one to kill bellatrix. Did he no, instead they have Molly calling her a Bitch(which is very out of character)and she kills her.
5. The whole deathly hallows subplot was a waste of paper, and my time reading it.
6. We were told that a non magic (person) would do magic. I must have missed that, it didn't happen that I recall and if it did it obviously wasn't important enough for me to even catch.
7. We see Malfoy asked if that was Harry Ron and Hermione and he says maybe, not telling the Death eaters for sure it was them and then he tries to kill them the next time he is in the book? Doesn't make sense.
8. We all know out Harry would have been to smart to follow that woman back to her house. Come on even I was rolling my eyes, and I am suppose to believe that Hermione went along with him. Way out of character. And why where on dumb trips, as soon as they saw Luna's dad( the second time) they should have known not to trust him, another eye rolling way out of character moment.
I am sure there are plenty more, but I am so utterly disappointed this is all I could think of right now.

1. We have been told Ginny is an exceptional witch. We watched her excel in the DA, and had many other examples how great she is. Not in book 7.
Everyone was trying to hold her back because she was underage but she still managed to get in the battle at the end and acquit herself well.
2. We have always known there is a great secret with Snape and Dumbledore, and that Snape is suppose to be a very powerful wizard. We get the secret in book 7 (although I am hoping everyone had already figured it out, no big surprise)Is he powerful in book 7 nope.
It actually was a surprise to me that Snape had always cherished Harry and that he was in love with his mother. Who knew Snape had a sensitive side or cared for the opposite sex at all? Not I. And as far as being powerful I disagree, he was able to fly
3. We were lead to believe by Rowling that we would find out so much more about the Dursley's. We found out that Dudley isn't such a prick, and Petunia wanted to go to Hogwarts. Big deal.
When did she lead you to believe this? I just go book to book without looking at interviews or fan speculation. I found myself shedding tears during the departure scene with Big D.
4. We have grown to love Neville and his growing strength. Neville is only at the very end of the book, and definitely should have been the one to kill bellatrix. Did he no, instead they have Molly calling her a Bitch(which is very out of character)and she kills her.
Molly's line calling Bella a bitch was way out of character but that was one of the scenes where I literally screamed "Yes!" out loud. It would have been poetic justice for Neville to take her out but I relay feel that the way it played out was better. The momma grizzly taking care of her cubs. And it also put to rest the impression that Molly couldn't throw it down when it really mattered, that she was soft. Neville going on to become a Professor does him justice.
5. The whole deathly hallows subplot was a waste of paper, and my time reading it.
I disagree. I thought it showed that the ambitions of the good can be just as disastrous as the ambitions of evil when they are realized.
6. We were told that a non magic (person) would do magic. I must have missed that, it didn't happen that I recall and if it did it obviously wasn't important enough for me to even catch.
I wasn't told this so I wasn't looking for it. A non-factor.
7. We see Malfoy asked if that was Harry Ron and Hermione and he says maybe, not telling the Death eaters for sure it was them and then he tries to kill them the next time he is in the book? Doesn't make sense.
Malfoy was always hedging his bets and is a coward at heart. I would have liked it if he had turned again to fight on the side of right at the end but it's just not his nature.
