my 4 main criticisms of harry potter:
1. it isn't in german, french, russian, latin, or ancient greek
2. there are no footnotes or a bibliography
3. the paragraphs don't take up 2 or three pages.
4. it doesn't lend itself well to making marginal notes or excessively marking up the text. what would be the point?

Having had the temerity to point out certain cultural ironies highlighted by the almost cultlike devotion to a mediocre work of fiction, I guess I qualify.
So I will point out that the lack of any clear classical references is enough to make me turn up my elegant proboscis.
