I have never read a Harry Potter book...
Does that make me a bad bookseller?

1. I haven't either
and I spend a good solid portion of my life reading too. I tend to not do what everybody else is doing. I'm just like that. :)

2. No.
I don't dislike the character or the books...I just have no interest in reading them. You don't have to read EVERY book ever written.

3. Do you have any for sale?
I bet you could clear out your stock of Harry Potter books right now, if people know you have them.

one either, and I'm glad this list is growing! :) Didn't want to be the only one on the planet who hasn't read any Harry Potter books!

9. Nor have I.
But then, I'm evl.

I believe that, in general, the level of hype tends be the inverse of the level of quality.

I also haven't seen any of the movies, not the LOTR movies. I have read the LOTR books, though.

31. The LOTR movies weren't bad, really...
I'm one of those people who reads LoTR once every few years, so I'm sorta familiar with the story.
I left BRUISES on my friend's leg from pounding on it "They got it RIGHT! They got it RIGHT!"

Some changes were kinda dumb- left out Tom Bombadil, (but I can see why...he doesn't advance the plot any and there WAS a time factor)...they changed the entire character of Arwen and completely vitiated the character of Denethor...among other things...
but they didn't SUCK.

15. Nope, I've never read one either....
You would have cleaned up last night had you been able to sell the book when just out.

Oak Park, which is just east of where I live, had a big party last night for the debut. According to the news, thousands of people attended. Downtown traffic was crazy there yesterday. Half the parking spaces at Oak Park Avenue and Lake Street were closed off and there were traffic aides directing traffic. A big party in the park next to the public library.

I was off in dreamland at midnight.

16. Wow, that would be a hell of a thing
If booksellers had to read everything they sold. Sure would keep you busy. So, no, I don't think that would make you a bad bookseller.

Bad Bookseller - now, that sounds like a character in a sort of seedy porn novel....

I don't think you need to read them to sell them... at least not Harry Potter books.

BTW, I haven't read any of them either.

19. Hi Retro!
I hate to admit this---

damn that rigorous honesty!
;-)

but---- I've never read one in its
entirety.I've just read bits and pieces
of them.

But I've liked the movies.

I hear this latest one is very good.

No, you are NOT a bad bookseller!!

But you sure are an honest one!

20. Nah... doesn't make you 'bad'...
I shudder to think some of the things that you'd have to wade through if you had to read 'everything' you sold...

William Gibson

Dean Koontz

whoever that putz was who wrote that "women are from mars, ..." crap...

21. I think I made it to page three of the first one .....
before I was bored out of my skull. I just couldn't get into it - and I really didn't want to. I was only attempting to read it because of my son. He told me today that he has to read books 5 & 6 before he reads #7.

have a 14 year old daughter who has never read a Harry Potter book or seen a Harry Potter movie. Just plain doesn't interest us.

25. Today I saw book seven at the grocery store. I picked it up. read the last
page. I know how it ends, now I don't have to read it.

Anyway, I just bought an Arundhati Roy book.

I don't need Harry Potter. I have Rushdie, Roy, and a host of other fine titles I need to read first.

30. Well, someone's going to eventually ask for a book like Harry Potter.
If you want to cheat, here are some suggestions:

His Dark Materials' trilogy by Phillip Pullman
Deep Magic by Diana Wynne Jones
Books of Magic (graphic novels) by Neil Gaiman

36. I haven't read any of them
and I most likely never will, but it is a matter of personal taste .

I don't feel particularly superior to people who DO read them , especially if that person is a child or a teen
