Tonight is movie on the backyard deck night, everything is ready to go.
The candles are light so we will not have bug problems, the fan is ready for a little breeze.

Popcorn, ice tea, and beer and whatever the others bring.

This is as close to a drive in movie as we can get.

I hope everyone will have a great night.

1. That sounds great
I doubt if I could make it there in time to crash the party, though. :(

8. So what do you watch the movie on?
Laptop? Move a tv outside? Watch through the window? :P

I really like that idea, though. Creative and fun. I haven't been to a drive-in in 20 years - I don't even know if there are any left around here. There was one back in Northfield Massachusetts last I knew.

12. One of my housemates has bring flat screen TV, we just carry it out.
We add on a few speakers for the surround sound and of course some food and drinks, and the night is set.

I really look forward to our outdoor movie nights.

6. Me to.
There are a few still around, great places for kids.

Remember all the playground equipment to play on.

We need more drivein movies.

7. I am not sure yet.
Everyone brings a movie or two and we vote on it.

I don't really care, it is really about a nice, night out.

Two of the couples have small children or babies, this makes it easy for them to get out for the night.

The older people don't really care to go to the movies so this works out well for everyone.

4. Cool! What's the main feature?
Maybe a cartoon to start things off, old school?

9. We do that for the little kids and then they go to sleep.
Only the baby will be up, and she is to young to know anything.

11. It is fun.
A good way to get to know your neighbors.

A movie shared is always better, beer, ice tea and whatever food is coming makes it like a party.

13. My father grew up in a very small town in western Wisconsin back in the 30's
He would hang a bedsheet in the middle of Main Street and show movies once a week in the summer. I don't think the town was as exciting as Mayberry.

15. That was nice for the father to do that.
That must have be a thrill for the people of the town back then.

21. Sure does.
A lot of people didn't even have a radio to listen to, so a once a month movie in town was something to look forward to.

Everybody knows everybody.

We try to get together at least once a month, more if we can.

22. Our neighbors do something like that about 8 times per year.
In fact tonight is one of them. Anyone can come, and they use a video projector with a large white screen. They play some cartoons first, mainly for the kids, then one episode of Flash Gordon (or the Little Rascals) then the main movie. Most people bring snacks or drinks to share, but it's not required. About 20 to 30 people come to each one. They even have a web site about it:

24. All right, I have moved the laptop outside.
The first movie of the night will be Meet Me in St. Louis, later on a action movie yet to me decided.

For food we have some excellent pinto beans with cornbread, some fried chicken, and a lemon cake.

The movie will start at 9 pm.

Lots of popcorn, ice tea and beer. :toast:
