Tammy Fay died
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 09:41 PM by johnnie
Poor woman. :(

RIP

I guess everyone knows already.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tammy Faye Bakker Messner, the televangelist who helped lead the PTL ministry before its collapse in a sex and corruption scandal, has died at age 65, her Web site reported on Saturday."

5. This is when I wished I had a copy of "The Eyes of Tammy Faye"
Edited on Sat Jul-21-07 09:57 PM by terrya
I wish I could watch it again tonight. To get rid of the some of the crap around here tonight.

I might head over to the nearest Blockbuster and rent it.

7. She's already gotten more coverage than Kurt Vonnegut...
I saw it on the banner on my way through my Corporatist ISP getting here.

Jeeze, I'm beginning to wonder if one's true value to society is inversely proportional
to one's eulogy.

That said, I'm sorry for her passing.

Now it's time to get out of Iraq.

12. I haven't been watching anything
I just saw it right before I posted this.

And I agree, time to get out of Iraq. My friend from Texas called a bit ago and they found out their city lost their first in Iraq yesterday. It's a small town so they all know each other. Plus her son (my friend) is due to go on his second tour in November :(

11. I've been reading GD and LBN...
...some of the sheer nastiness is astounding. She may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but there's no need to piss on her now that she's dead. :(

13. I agree
I will never understand the joy of someone's death. You might be not affected, but to piss on graves is just really bizarre to me.

26. See, I agree with you about a lot of the nastiness
It's so unnecessary. You might not like somebody, but do you have to celebrate their death? When Steve Erwin died, I just lurked until the ugliness died down.

But I guess I do make some exceptions. Reagan, for instance, made me wish I was a guy, just so that I'd have the proper appendages for grave-pissing.

...i think there's a time and place for everything. IMO, wait till the body's cold anyway.

I agree about Reagan, though.

35. I remember a while ago
there was a thread about what should be dedicated to Reagan to honor his memory. Some of the better ideas were the Ronald Reagan side dish: (it's a vegetable, you know)

and the Ronald Reagan home for the mentally ill:

37. I got here late so I missed some flamefests
but this reminds me more of Steve Irwin. 95% of DU is positive about Tammy, just like with Irwin, and making the 5% seem bigger than it is. It may not even be 5%, but more like 5 or 10 posters, compared to 3-400 expressing condolence. Kinda the opposite numbers of Falwell or Ford.

19. Ah man
Poor woman, she's at peace now, and no longer in pain. I pretty much ignored her other than as a cultural side note from when I was growing up until I watched One Punk Under God on the Sundance channel. She seemed like a really nice lady, I feel bad for her son and family. She hung on forever, fought till the very end. Cancer sucks.

38. The "Larry King" interview really creeped me out...
I grew up in Charlotte NC, the home of the "Pass The Loot Club" and "Heritage USA", and Tammy Faye was a ubiquitous fixture around the area. She was garish and scary-looking at times, but bubbly and warm at others, like an animate comedy/tragedy mask.

The frail, whithered husk that she'd become was just heartbreaking. I hope that she was able to keep her inner peace when the time came to leave this world.
