My reading list for tomorrow at the beach. |

China Mieville's Perdido Street Station and Iron Council (both half done). Harry Potter (picking up my copy momentarily).
Plus I'm taking my sketchbook.
Think I've got enough to keep me occupied?

I've read good things but haven't picked any of his stuff up yet.
You could always reread the Red Wedding. :P

3. Really, really good. I'd put him on a level with Martin, although their writing styles are different |
|
I believe the books in his main series are, in chronological order:
Perdido Street Station The Scar Iron Council
But you can pretty much read them in any order you want. They're very loosely connected.
He's also got a short story collection (Looking for Jake, which I don't have), and maybe one or two others.
And as for the Red Wedding...I've read A Storm of Swords so many times I had to replace my first copy. :) Suffice it to say I'd prefer to read the new and different I have.

But 'cmon, that's gotta be the best beach reading ever. So lighthearted and fun. :sarcasm:

2. Well, I wouldn't take that Harry Potter thing to the beach if I were you. |
|
The other beachgoers will think you are infantile and faddish. If you simply MUST read that sort of mass-marketed drivel, you should at least do it in the privacy of your own home. Better yet, get someone who actually reads to help you pick something more intellectually appropriate to pore over in public. Something that makes you seem smart and clearly informs the unwashed masses that you are a superior book consumer. Maybe something dry and Russian. Or Phillip Pullman.

4. $10 says a bunch of other people at the beach will be reading it. |
|
So THERE to the folks bad-mouthing it. :P
Sarcasm received and understood, BTW.
