Chimps are not monkeys!
It had to be said. Too many people are using images of chimps and calling them monkeys. I normally don't mind so much, because chimps are funny. Who doesn't love a chimp? (Unless it's running your government.) I let it slide most of the time. But the recent ad that showed a woman "with a monkey on her back" that had a chimp wrapped around her neck breaking things...they could so easily have used an actual, damn monkey, and the commercial would have been funnier. It was the last straw.

Please, won't someone think of the monkeys??

:freak:

2. I can never remember the definitions
Could you explain the differences between monkeys and apes? And is a chimp an ape?

4. Monkeys have tails, apes don't
and yes, chimps are apes. "The great apes" are chimps (incl. bonobos), gorillas, orang utans and us.

3. Thank you.
My six year old can tell them apart, so it's a pet peeve of mine that adults can't be bothered.

6. I have a rule that toy chimps can be called monkeys
particularly if they look ambiguous, because people buy me monkeys due to my monkey fetish, and often they mistakenly give me chimps (I even bought one once at the Singapore Zoo, because it looked very much like a monkey until I got it home and saw it had no tail.) :D

8. Yes. Thank you. That is a major pet peeve of mine. Apes/Monkeys. Learn the difference!
Learn it, I say! *shakes fist angrily*
