No @#&!, Sherlock: This Week in the Very Obvious

Magnifying It's time again for this week's celebration of self-evident but nonetheless necessary scientific foot soldiery.

Leading it off are researchers from the University of Western Ontario who observed that children imitate cool kids more than kids who are merely nice. At the University of Cambridge, scientists found that older children talk about events more clearly than toddlers.

Elderly women losing their memories have trouble falling asleep, said University of California, San Francisco neurologist Kristine Yaffe. The Cochrane Collaboration reported that an extended hospital stay is a good time to quit smoking.

The University of Minnesota's Jeff Strock showed that by finding alternatives to fertilizers and pesticides, farmers can cut back on the pollution caused by fertilizers and pesticides.

And on a less pastoral note, Ohio State family scientist Deanna Wilkinson said that inner city adults don't try to disclipline the violent teen criminals in their neighborhood, as they're afraid of them.
