Definitely. Harry couldn't even bear to tell Hermione how Nagini had got there. I thought that was really clever, though...luring Harry away, speaking in parsseltongue when Harmione was out of earshot...

The epilogue made me groan, though. Even though I wouldn't have put those particular sets of characters together in the end, I saw the writing on the wall and had basically made my peace with it. But the epilogue was just too damn saccharine, fluffy, sunshine-and-bunnies for me. I've been reading George R. R. Martin too long. :)

I mean, it came as a horrible shock. I mean, it's one thing not to explain what happened to Colin...but Lupin and Tonks...you'd want to know how they died! I guess you can leave it to the imagination. Wouldn't be surprised if Fenrir got Lupin and Bellatrix got Tonks...

|
Edited on Sun Jul-22-07 10:07 PM by MadAsHellNewYorker
Aberforth tells Tonks he's seen Remus dueling Dolohov (pg. 626)....thats the last mention of them till the dead boddies. But your theory could be true too. It definitly upset me the most. They seemed so central to the story for a long time....and now their kid is parentless like Harry. I was hoping their would be a bit more glory with their deaths....sigh, that was the biggest UGH for me...next to the epilogue that is, lol. I hated the epilogue.

20. Dolohov doesn't seem like he could've killed Tonks AND Lupin. |
|
I liked the epilogue ONLY because of what Harry said about Snape at the very end. Made it all worth it. I think what possibly happened, is Lupin got killed by Greyback (as I recall, Greyback had it in for Lupin because he considered him a traitor to all werewolves), and then when Tonks rushed in Bellatrix got her. I don't know that Bellatrix could've taken both Lupin and Tonks on her own, skilled as she was. I'm pretty sure Bella had something to do with their deaths though, she HATED Tonks.

(well, of course it was intentional) but not knowing what happened just contributes to the chaos of the battle. it's war, who knows what happened, is I think the point of it all.

It's war, for fuck's sake. Random people will die in random ways. Just because a person is "important" doesn't mean he/she gets an important, pages-long, dramatic death.

It was revealed to the reader the way it was revealed to Harry, and probably how you might find out if you were engaged in such a frenzied battle. You wouldn't see their last glorious moments, you'd just discover their bodies after the fighting died down.
It was awful though. Poor Teddy.

You know what would've been fuckin sweet? Lupin vs. Greyback in werewolf form, battle of the werewolves. Anyway, a sinking feeling tells me that Lupin's killer was Greyback...noone hated Remus more than him, after all. Lavender should be fine, in any case.

42. At least Lupin apparently died of the killing curse |
|
The book mentions that Harry saw Lupin and Tonks laid out side by side "like they were sleeping" so at least both of them went instantly by Avada Kedavra, whoever it was that cursed them.
I wish she'd been more clear on the fates of various villains in the battle - whether they got killed or thrown in Azkaban forever or whatever. Bellatrix is the only one who explicitly dies AFAIK and the Malfoys explicitly survive. I REALLY wanted to find out what happened to Umbridge. I had been hoping and praying for her untimely demise ever since OOTP.

She made me want to vomit. I mean, could she have wanted to ride Voldemort like a stallion more?! Also, George not only lost his ear, he lost his twin, best friend, and business partner. George will never be the same. That didn't get an UGH from me, it got several sobs. The Weasley twins were my favorite characters in the book. Jo will get a stern talking to if we ever meet. I cannot believe she killed him off. I'm still very raw about the whole thing. Duckie

38. The complete lack of gay characters - it bothers me. |
|
Rowling was otherwise so wonderfully realistic with the kids swearing, acting up, snogging, plus the inclusion of so many different races and cultures, representing the full face of British citizenry, and so on - there was no reason not to have some gay characters.
And that's not to say she would have had to make a big deal of it, but to treat it as natural and normal as the hetero relationships. If Ron and Hermione can hold hands, why not Seamus and Neville, for instance? Doesn't have to be graphic, or "OH MY GOD!" quality.
It just would have been better

...as far as I can figure out- a term used to denote same-sex sexual encounters taking place. If it's labeled YAAOI (acronym for a Japanese term that I can't recall), it means the whole point of the piece is for the characters to boff each others brains out...there is no real story line. I've also seen it designated as 'Plot what plot?'.
I usually skip those, I like a bit of plot, dialogue and character development along with the boinking.
You can PM me if you want the link to a site that has rather good authors...and everything is very CLEARLY labeled as to what's going on; e.g. fluff, silly, angst, out-of-character, character death, sex-and-drugs-and rock 'n' roll...so you can pick and choose what you want to read. Some of the authors appear to have the idea of how to write STORY as well as sex scenes. Just not sure if posting link for that sort of thing is kosher...
