Help on Bush nicknames from my DUers
Ok...every now then I try to be hip and with it - you kids and your groovy slang... but can someone help me with the following Bush references:

(1) Why is Laura called Pickles?
(2) Why is Bush referred to as * here at DU
(3)Where did the Condi/W rumor begin?

Right now I just laugh along as if I know...but... well now I feel like a doofus

Thanks!

1. About the *
It's the symbol for asshole as per Kirk Vonnegut.

2. #3
I don't remember the exact quote, and I'm too lazy right now to look it up, but Condi very nearly referred to Dubya as her husband once.

3. I think Pickles has something to do with...
Vinegar and Water. But not sure.

* refers to sports record books that place an * by a record with shady circumstances, such as McGuire's hitting records that are tainted by steroids. Bush's 2000 victory as an asterix by it.

4. The rumor most likely originated
from a dinner party in 2004 at which Rice was heard to say, "As I was telling my husb— as I was telling President Bush..."

6. Always figured 'Pickles' refered to oft mentioned, never seen character on Dice Van Dyke show in 60s
Character Buddy Sorrell, played by Morrie Amsterdam, always telling tales on his not-too bright, not-too kind (but never seen) wife, Pickles.

Then, there is that face Laura Bush makes... Could be that too ;)
