not your fault, way too many people are okay with stereotypical racist imagery of latinos.

16. Pay toilets
I mentioned this to a co-worker and she said that her only recollection of it from childhood was that she had to get a quarter from her mom to go to the bathroom.

I love cheesy crap like this-not really to buy but to go and observe how a mind got to that point AND the people who clearly stop here on purpose.

We got fireworks from there 5 years ago coming back from our honeymoon. Being that we never went to Myrtle or anywhere other than Va. Beach and then Nags Head (my wife grew up in Roanoke -everyone there goes to Myrtle) this was new to me.

It is QUITE the dump! It's like one giant Stuckey's!!!

18. I remember when SotB
was nothing but a little roadside cafe next to an open broomstraw field (so you could shoot off your fireworks that you just bought.)

To observe what it has become in my lifetime is just ..... *sigh*

I love South of the Border...because it's soooooooo wrong :)
The founder of South of the Border, until his death just a few years ago, was a longtime Dem who gave lots of $$$$$$$$$$$ to the SC Democratic Party.

21. I use to do these Ecology field trips during spring break at Sapelo Island, GA
We would always drive it down and our professor (who was also the driver) refused to stop at South of the Border. We would annoy the shit out of him by reading all the signs as we passed them and just plain bugging him to stop (mind you, we had a keg in the van that was tapped and flowing).

Never did get to stop there

27. Just another case where prohibition made someone rich
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20061120/ap_tr_ge/travel_trip_south_of_the_border

The guy who started South of the Border was a beer dealer in Robeson County, North Carolina. In 1949 Robeson County took the Local Option (that means you couldn't buy beer there anymore) and the beer seller moved to Dillon County, SC, and set up the South of the Border Beer Stop right on the state line.

Now that family is so filthy rich South of the Border will survive into eternity.

Every time someone tries to interfere with people getting fucked up on the weekends, this happens. National Prohibition made the Mafia a permanent part of the landscape. Drug prohibition put Medellin on the map. And the Local Option caused...well, this.

30. I saw his post
which doesn't change the fact that the guy who started South of the Border was attacked by his local government (they banned the sale of his product) and he retaliated by going just out of their jurisdiction and going large. Which, of course, is the only intelligent thing TO do.
