Man Says He Found Fried Mouse In Potato Chips

HAVRE, Mont. -- Frito-Lay will investigate a Montana man's claim that he found a deep-fried mouse in a bag of barbecue potato chips.

Frito-Lay said the claim is "unsubstantiated."

Jack Hines of Havre, Mont., is a 66-year-old former laborer and contractor. Hines said he was snacking on the chips Tuesday when he pulled a crispy rodent from the package.

He said, "I felt the fur, I brought it back down and just looked at it and threw it behind my back."

Frito-Lay is sending a representative to retrieve the bag and the mouse.

Company spokesman Jared Dougherty said a photo of the mouse makes him "very skeptical" it entered the bag during the manufacturing process.

Dougherty added that Hines had the bag of chips for more than two weeks, and opened it about one week before discovering the mouse.

how a 5LB bag of potatoes was far more cost effective than fried potato chips...

Difference is, I'd expect remnants of mice to be in a bag of potatoes. They get cleaned before being cooked. Since the bag of chips is sealed at the factory, I doubt the mouse was taking a skinny dip in the vat of cooking oil... it still had all its fur on.
