I CANNOT do sushi. I will NEVER do sushi since I met this guy:

Diphylallobothrim latum: the broad fish tapeworm.

After doin' time in the Parasite section of the Naval Hospital, Washington DC, I don't do raw, including oysters.

1. If I had one of those in me.
I'd hit the all-you-can-eat sushi joint and put them out of business!

2. If you had one of THOSE in you, you would not venture far from the bathroom.
All exits open, no waiting.

6. Wear your "Depends", take a bucket and lots of air freshener....
Asians aren't so sensitive to the effects of this beast, and it can be extracted sans meds, but us "GAIJIN" tend to react very poorly to the presence of this "guest."

I'll take my fish COOKED.

5. You do realize that not all Sushi is raw
AND

it's not like they can buy just any slab of raw fish and slice it up for sushi. They have to buy a special grade that has been checked for this stuff. Probably why I avoid cheap sushi joints. Not worth taking the risk and I love Sushi!

7. Oh yes. I do realize...
And I realize the grade of tuna sashimi is VERY high, but all that does is lower the odds.

If I want to gamble, especially with my health, I will start playing cards again with a cousin of Jack Tocco I used to hang out with.

You probably won't get sick, but I'm a chicken. I don't fly either.

8. also, keep in mind that not all sushi is fish
there are lots of great veggie sushi rolls out there, from kanpyo to avocado to tofu to cucumber and everything in between.

And as someone else said, a good sushi restaurant takes their fish very seriously - you're more likely to get sick from a burger.

9. I will still pass, thank you.
Cucumbers act like baked beans on me, only faster and worse.

Sushi will have to get along without me, I fear.

11. I don't travel (broke).
I KNOW the people that run the restaurants I visit and have Health Department connections to get "The Word" on ones I want to try.

Haven't gone swimming in anything but a pool in years.

Just chicken, I guess.
