*SPOILER* Question about Deathly Hallows *MOVIE*...
Will Molly Weasley say the B-word? I mean, she kinda *has* to, but...but...

WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN??

(just imagining all the shocked indignant semi-fundie parents )

1. I was just thinking that. .
Heck I've been wondering what they'll edit out, alter, change. . etc. etc. .

I think the Deathly Hallows movie adaptation will be very interesting.

2. Even without that
I'm thinking it will be PG-13 rather than PG.

After Voldemort came back, things were just a little less cheery.

3. They'll be lucky
They'll be lucky, and will have to cut liberally, to keep it from having an R rating. And not because of the word "bitch."

7. I think a PG-13 can still have a certain amount of violence
No bare breasts, can't say "fuck", and limited violence, you can still avoid an R.

9. It's kind of a given that the last two will be PG-13
#6 has the lovely scene with the Inferi/zombies. In my opinion, movie 5 was a very soft PG-13 and could've been PG, but if they consider it to be PG-13, then a zombie scene is definitely rated at that. And also, of course, there's the whole issue of Bill Weasley being mauled by a werewolf.

#7 though... there's so much disturbing violence and the potential for a lot of gore. Probably the "hardest" PG-13 movie I've seen, which could have been R, is Return of the King. Book 7 is worse in some ways:
-Nagini eating the teacher at the beginning
-Nagini bursting out of Bathilda's body
-Bellatrix almost slitting Hermione's throat and drawing blood
-Neville being set on fire in the Sorting Hat (OK, ROTK had Denethor being set on fire.)
-If they show flashbacks of the Regulus cave scene, then he is dragged underwater to his death by zombies
-A "good character" (Harry) successfully performing the Cruciatus Curse on someone and exulting in it
-Dobby is knifed
-Ron splinches himself and gets covered in blood
-Snape's death scene, being attacked by the snake and bleeding to death

If not for the first two list items, I'd say yeah, they could pull it off. But, I'll honestly be surprised if the movie is true to the book without being rated R. Of course it won't be rated that, which means they'll cut or modify some of the nastier scenes....

11. No problem!
-Nagini eating the teacher at the beginning
Even in the book this is implied/offscreen

-Nagini bursting out of Bathilda's body
Can do a quick cutaway to Harry's reaction, and imply with a squicky noise, then show Nagini

-Bellatrix almost slitting Hermione's throat and drawing blood
Threatened only--not R-worthy

-Neville being set on fire in the Sorting Hat (OK, ROTK had Denethor being set on fire.)
Can have the hat only on fire. IIRC Neville himself is not on fire

-If they show flashbacks of the Regulus cave scene, then he is dragged underwater to his death by zombies
Probably won't be in due to time constraints

-A "good character" (Harry) successfully performing the Cruciatus Curse on someone and exulting in it
Not R-worthy. Cheer-worthy, maybe :)

-Dobby is knifed
Can show the knife in his chest before he starts bleeding, and show minimal blood

-Ron splinches himself and gets covered in blood
Probably won't be in due to time constraints

-Snape's death scene, being attacked by the snake and bleeding to death
Snakebite can be on the "other" side of his neck from the camera POV. Blood not needed (ie implied death-by-venom)

Please send my screenplay check via FedEx :P

10. Here's an easy one
Edit out Malfoy's mother, give her lines & action to Malfoy's father. Phew! One less actor to pay for! Of course, they'd have to do this bit of editing for HBP too.

4. Well, fundie and semi-fundie parents wouldn't take their kids to see a "Harry Potter" film
anyway, right? Evil, Satanic magic and all that?...

6. I meant the non-fanatical types
Agreed, fundie parents wouldn't be caught dead at a HP movie. But regular ol' Christian parents (who aren't threatened by fantasy) might still be shocked at the B-word if their 6-year-old is next to them.

13. If the precious little innocents haven't heard the word "bitch" before now...
...whether as the proper term to describe a female dog, or as a verb to describe complaining about something, or a descripitve term of something difficult, or a derogative term for a human-type woman, than they are either EXTREMELY sheltered or they just haven't been paying attention.

IMHO.

The youth director at my father's church is a Potter fanatic.
