Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a dream lullaby, and seems hauntingly appropriate. Iz's rendition is amongst the best.

25. Yes I think I was attempting to grab that one. Here a compilation with Iz and others
Here's a video compilation with Iz and a few other artists guaranteed to produce tears.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x3514

It starts off with Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole (dead), one of my favorites, and a rendition by Eva Cassidy (dead), a little bit of electric rock version by Jimmy Hendrix (dead), Judy Garland (dead), and a few artists I don't recognize, but I suspect might be dead.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a dream lullaby, and seems hauntingly appropriate to honor our fallen brothers and sisters. I'm shed a few tears every time I hear it because they can no longer chase the dream they hoped or expected to.

15. She Goes On by Crowded House
Pretty soon youll be able to remember her
Lying in the garden singing
Right where shell always be
The door is always open

This is the place that I loved her
And these are the friends that she had
Long may the mountain ring
To the sound of her laughter
And she goes on and on

In her soft wind I will whisper
In her warm sun I will glisten
till we see her once again
In a world without end

We owe it all to frank sinatra
The song was playing a she walked into the room
After the long weekend
They were a lifetime together

Appearing in the eyes of children
In the clear blue mountain view
The colouring in the sky
And painting ladders to heaven
And she goes on

In her soft wind I will whisper
In her warm sun I will glisten
till we see her once again
In a world without end

In her soft wind I will whisper
In her warm sun I will glisten
And I always will remember
In a world without end
She goes on
She goes on
She goes on

32. "Imagine" by John Lennon
Also I have a list of poems and other readings for folks to select from, here's one I added recently:

"This here ol' man jus' lived a life an' jus' died out of it. I don' know whether he was good or bad, but that don't matter much. He was alive, an' that's what matters. An' now he's dead, an' that don't matter. Heard a fella tell a poem one time, an' he syas 'All that lives is holy.' Got to thinkin', an' purty soon it means more than the words says. An' I wouldn' pray for a ol' fella that's dead. He's awright. He got a job to do, but it's all laid out for 'im an' there's on'y one way to do it. But us, we got a job to do, an' they's a thousan' ways, an' we don' know which one to take. An' if I was to pray, it'd be for the folks that don' know which way to turn. Grampa here, he got the easy straight. An' now cover 'im up and let 'im get to his work." - Jim Casy at Grampa's burial. "Grapes of Wrath"

35. I think it would be nice to know
that at the very end I got my own way as to what music would be played. :)

I think the following would certainly be a good start:

Angel--Robbie Williams
The Impossible Dream--Richard Kiley
Pastoral Symphony by Beethoven
Willow by David Lanz

There are others, but these few are particularly important to me. :)

And, because I believe in the Fairness Doctrine and there may be a few people present who don't particularly feel towards me the sentiments presented by Ms. DeMent, perhaps after that they could play Dancing in the Street by Martha and the Vandellas.

Then everyone should pour a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on my gravesite and go eat themselves silly.

And whenever anyone makes use of the kneeler thingy in front of my casket, it should have a laugh track activated.

69. "Lay Me Low" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
They're gonna lay me low (Lay me low)
They're gonna sink me in the snow
They're gonna throw back their heads and crow
When I go

They're gonna jump and shout (Lay me low)
They're gonna wave their arms about
All the stories will come out
When I go

All the stars will glow bright (Lay me low)
And my friends will give up the fight
They'll see my work in a different light
When I go

They'll try telephoning my mother (Lay me low)
But they'll end up getting my brother
Who'll spill the story on some long-gone lover
That I hardly know

Hats off to the man
On top of the world
Come crawl up here, baby
And I'll show you how it works
If you wanna be my friend
And you wanna repent
And you want it all to end
And you wanna know when
Well do it now don't care how
Take your final bow
Make a stand Take my hand
And blow it all to hell

They gonna inform the police chief (Lay me low)
Who'll breathe a sigh of relief
He'll say I was a malanderer, a badlander, and a thief
When I go

They will interview my teachers (Lay me low)
Who'll say I was one of God's sorrier creatures
There'll print informative six-page features
When I go

They'll bang a big old gong (Lay me low)
The motorcade will be ten miles long
The world will join together for a farewell song
When they put me down below

They'll sound a fluegelhorn (Lay me low)
And the sea will rage, and the sky will storm
All man and beast will mourn
When I go

Hats off to the man
On top of the world
Come crawl up here, baby
And we can watch this damn thing turn
If you wanna be my friend
And you wanna repent
And you want it all to end
And you wanna know when
Well do it now Do it now
Take a long last bow
Take my hand Make a stand
And blow it all to hell

Lay me low...
When I go...

Actually, I've told my wife to bring a recording of it to wherever my deathbed will be. Besides hearing her say, "I love you," the song is the last thing I want to hear before I spring from this mortal coil.

After that, she can put my body out for the Monday morning trash pickup.
