Anyone have experience with restless legs syndrome? |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 09:24 PM by pagerbear
It's making me crazy! I'm finally going to call my doctor tomorrow.
Edit: Not only does it keep me awake, but it also makes me skittish about being touched. Tell that to an affection but sensitive young partner!

1. I did for years, but it finally went away on its own. |

Just my right leg. Probably something tickling a nerve root. I am on meds for something else that I take at night and that may be what made it quiet down. But at the time- I never heard of it so I really thought I was the only one. I know a man whose wife has it really bad and it keeps them both awake all night because the movements are jerky. Mine just was more tickly and I felt like I had to distract myself from it to fall asleep.
I hope they have something good to treat it now.

2. I was reading about it on WebMD.com |
|
There are several ways to treat it. I clicked on an advert for a drug that treats it--side effects include falling asleep unexpectedly during normal activities and increase in compulsive behavior!

4. Well, I will just tell you this |
|
did medical research for years and had MANY patients tell me that vit E 'cured' their restless leg syndrome. 400-1200 IU/day. symptoms relieved in less than 48 hrs.
Just what I have been told by patients.

6. I will give that a try! |
|
I've had the symptoms on and off for a while now, but they have gotten much worse in the past month, since I had surgery on 6/21. (I had a circumferential body lift and abdominoplasty, having lost a ton becuase of weight-loss surgery.) I wondered whether it might be related to my routine with meals and supplements being inconsistent during that time.

5. Magnesium can be helpful |
|
it is a relaxant - it used to help my grandmother. Also, there is a homeopathic remedy with quinine that is supposed to help. It's made by Hylands.
Good luck!

7. I have the problem and have for years..... |
|
I found that taking potassium citrate stops it within 30-45 minutes. I have never had to take more than two 99mg potassium pills to get relief.
