1. So far I'm surprised at the consensus--I expected a range of opinions
Though Van Helsing was quite a steamer.

2. Being a hopeless cretin (apparently), I liked all of them.

But then hey, I like Opera, too.

13. I haven't see Mummy II, but I liked the others
Van Helsing had some groaner moments, but I didn't go into it expecting cinematic high art...

14. I didn't either.
I went in expecting a comic book story, and that's what I got. I enjoyed it.

4. You could tell Van Helsing would suck from the previews.
I was mildly surprised by the Mummy. It was dumb, but still entertaining.

Mummy 2 sucked camel balls.

5. I thought the first "Mummy" was really quite entertaining...
The second one was iffy, and Van Helsing sucked, IMHO.

7. See, the reason that I didn't like The Mummy
Is that I was hoping for a more serious take on it. Granted, the premise is a bunch of hooey, but something in tune with the vibe of the Karloff film would have been preferable to me.

Also, every time Brendan Fraser is in a crappy movie, it makes it harder for me to remember that he's actually a good actor.

9. Don't a lot of movies have premises that are "a bunch of hooey"?
Sometimes that's what makes them fun.

10. I agree! A hooey premise can be a blast
But it's in the execution that films/books/whatever can get tripped up. It's too easy to go for flashy effects and campy pseudohumor, as is the case in The Mummy.

Just my $0.02, of course...

8. I've only ever seen The Mummy...I thought it sucked.
Judging by this poll so far, I really don't need to rush out and rent Van Helsing....

11. fans of the "modern vampire" genre are extremely gullible
and quite easily amused. This horrible tripe that gets released now isn't even mildly entertaining. Movies like Van Helsing, Underworld, Skinwalkers, etc are an awful embarrassment. The whole genre needs to be put on a moratorium.

12. Don't forget Bloodrayne!
On second thought, forget it. Forget all about it. Forever. And ever.

15. Never saw Van Helsing..the trailer turned me off
I thought the Mummy was great deliberately campy fun. The second one was just, well, lame.
