16. Ok
Timmy got hit by a car, me and my dad went to get him and bring him home....
put him in a blanket, and we were going to bury him the next day

well about an hour after leaving him wrapped up in a towel and in a box

he came scratching at the side door, just like he used to.....
I can not tell you the feelings we had....
he was an awesome dog....

he was dead as a doornail.... stiff

we freaked out

6. I've only had four thus far..
when i'm on my own there will undoubtedly be many, many more!

Peanut - The little guy was around when I was born.. he wasn't very friendly.. but I was distraught when I found out he wouldn't be coming home again.. I thought he disappeared, but I later learned that he was hit by a car and ended up seeking refuge under our deck. Parents didn't tell me about it in an attempt to not hurt my feelings or whatever..

Tiny - "My" first pet.. Little brown hamster. Used to fight with my brothers hamster all the time, and wouldn't you know mine was actually the better fighter! Of course, i'm the little brother and can't say the same thing about myself. Both of these hamsters lived a pretty long time..

Jesse - My family decided to get a Sheltie after both the hamsters passed away. He's getting old, but he is still with us! Love the guy.

Pippin - My friends cat had kittens, they were cute, and I brought one home with me. My dad wasn't too happy, but I don't care. The stupid cat rocks.

11. Too many cats, too many years.
Many of the cats have been named things like "gray kitty" or "boy cat." Over 28 years here on the farm, way too many.

But, More importantly, my Labradors have been: Boss, Daisy, Rex, Coal, Cezar.

14. sure...
childhood:
cats- Skipper a male black and white long haired cat, was around from the time I was very young; Muffin a black long haired cat who got his tail lopped off under the hood of our neighbor when she started her car :P poor kitty, the neighbor thought there was something wrong with her car and she turned it off really quickly. Later they found a cat's tail and we found our tail less cat :(.

dogs- Snoopy a dorky cockeroodle who loved to run out the door and down the street as fast as he could go. He ended up "living on a farm"; then there was Tippy, a loyal and defensive dog who bit the babysitter when she picked my sister up again taken to "a farm" ; Lady was a sheltie who was the quintessential dog who was loved by all, she was run over in front of our house, coincidentally the only time I remember seeing my dad cry as a child.; Lad was a sheltie who was trying to fill some mighty big shoes of Lady and he was laid back and a good dog.; Heather was a hyper and possibly abused little sheltie who shook when you held her and shook, she never got over that and was always nervous :( poor thing.

Adulthood:
cats- Abnor (short for abby normal) a gray striped tabby cat who used to stalk me around the house, I think he was possessed. He got hit by a car but didn't die and came back home with a broken bone and damaged spinal nerve in his tail. I tried to help him recover by giving him meds and squeezing his bladder for him 3 times a day. After 3 weeks the vet said it was not going to heal and so I had him euthanized. Max was a Manx cat who had no tail and was very playful, and funny. He bit into an electrical cord and it killed him while we were gone for the weekend.
dogs- Wilson was a half Rottweiler and half Doberman he was a good looking dog and he was poisoned by someone that tried to break into my father in law's house where he was staying. Kerry was a dalmatian who was a very good dog and lived to age 13 1/2. Keltie the sheltie is a baaaaaad dog... she is better, but every once in a while she likes to take a shit in the house. :eyes:

other than a couple of parakeets, and some fish, i think that is it

19. This was a trip down memory lane, most happy, some devastating

Puncinello (Punchie) - gray male long-haired cat who named himself...saw him in a pet store and he meowed at me quite insistently, and the name popped clearly into my head; there was no going home without him
Bink - male orange tabby (cross-eyed, dumb as a box of rocks, and farted like you wouldn't believe)
Mags - female shepherd/st. bernard mix - my baby, whom I had for only a few months, and whose loss still hurts 20 years later (she was stolen, probably for medical experimentation)

27. It's a relatively short list of animals that have allowed me to care for them.
Ginger, a cat that wandered into our yard - my father warned my mother not to feed the cat, but she did and the rest was history.
Duffy, a black lab that was too much for the family to handle
Trixie, a cat who I wasn't very friendly with, but who I bawled my eyes out over when we had to put her to sleep.

long, long, long gap

Seba, an incredible cat and familiar for my ex who introduced me to my new-found love of furry critters.

Phoenix, a skittish classic tabby
Guylian (Phoenix's adopted brother), the most wonderful loving cat I've ever met, he's a Maine Coon and I love watching him in the snow (it's the only time he goes outside).
Corky, adopted to keep Guy company while I'm at work (Phoenix went with my ex after a breakup), a literal handful as he's the biggest cat I've ever cared for.

Now, Phoenix is back with me and it's a three cat, one keeper household.

because she was the most evil cat we had ever seen. For some reason, she hated everything, everywhere, all the time. People, her brothers and sisters, our dog, everything. It was odd, because her litter mates were fine

32. These are all the ones I can remember
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 11:21 PM by MysticalChicken
Poco - Amazon parrot (not gray). We had him when I was very, very young, about four or five years old. He froze to death when the heater broke during a particularly cold winter.

Misty - fat fluffy gray cat that I hated because she stunk. She died when I was fifteen or sixteen.

Midnight - my favorite cat ever. Sleek and black. She was "a lady." Never scratched or bit anyone--ever. She was a stray and adopted us when I was ten, and died when I was twenty-five of old age.

Sugar - Cocker spaniel that I had as a kid.

Monique - Rabbit that my next-door neighbor gave me. She died of mysterious causes.

Buddy - Our black lab. He's old. He'll be 12 in September.

Kurayami - Japanese for "darkness." Fluffy black cat, just out of kittenhood, that we got a year and a half ago. Possibly bi-polar. Most affectionate cat I've ever seen in my life and also the most bitey.

Abigail, Beatrice, Camille, Dolores, Eleanor, Frances, Gertrude, Henrietta (and also names beginning with I through O which I can't remember): Chickens. Two were red, C through H were black with red feathers on their chests, and I through O were white. They were egg-laying chickens, not for eating. They all froze to death during an ice storm, at least those that hadn't already died of old age. But they also had distinct personalities and looks - Abigail was dark red and hated humans and would not let herself be petted, Beatrice was lighter red and would only let you pet her when she was in a good mood (which wasn't often), Camille had middle toes that bent inward and was also the friendliest (I could pick her up), Dolores had the least amount of red feathers on her chest, Eleanor had the most red feathers on her chest (and she was also "pretty," if a chicken can be called pretty. Her eyes were large and she had a long neck and a very coo-ing sort of voice), Frances was the old fat one (she was the one that died first, I think, of old age), and I don't remember what distinguishing characteristics Gertrude and Henrietta had. The rest of them were all white and all looked alike. BTW, my mom named them all, not me. I hate most of those names.

This is possibly my most depressing post ever. "Here's the names of all my pets and also how they died."

so I don't think he's biting to hurt.

He does scratch a lot, though. I've gotten so used to it that it doesn't even hurt anymore.

42. I'm used to my cat doing it, but he wants to sit on the lap of ANYONE who comes here,
and he has scared people by jumping up on their laps when they didn't expect it, and a few minor biting/scratching incidents have occurred, but he's not trying to hurt them. It's just normal behavior in his mind.
