On Astros radio broadcasts, they're plugging 'Faith Night'
Aug. 11 at Minute Maid Park.

I was curious as to what sort of "faith" they're talking about, so I went to the Astros web site:

The Astros have teamed up with Third Coast Sports to bring you Faith and Family Night at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, August 11.

Schedule of Events:

2:30 PM: Select gates will open

2:45 PM: Faith and Family Night program will begin with a player testimonial by Astros first baseman and four-time All-Star, Lance Berkman

3-4 PM: Legendary Christian artist, Jeremy Camp will perform an exclusive pre-game concert. Jeremy Camp has scored ten #1 hits including Understand, Right Here, Walk By Faith, I Still Believe, Stay, Take You Back, Lay Down My Pride, This Man and What It Means. He is a two-time Dove Award Winner for Male Vocalist of the Year. His latest album, Beyond Measure, was released in October of last year. Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato from the hit animated series VeggieTales will be on hand to take pictures with fans.

4 PM: Concert ends, gates will open to the general public for the 6:05 PM Astros game versus the Milwaukee Brewers.

4-5 PM: Jeremy Camp will be available for autographs on the Main Concourse behind Home Plate.

I guess people who have faith in Allah, Buddha et al aren't invited.

2. A ringing endorsement for athiesm
As faithful fans of a team that's never won a World Series and will be 16 games under .500 after the Dodgers beat them again tonight, I'm feeling more and more confident their particular collection of fairy tales don't hold the answers to the universe's myriad mysteries.

6. Exactly! It's not "faith night"; it's "CHRISTIAN night".
Wake me when there's an ALL FAITHS night.

Oh, and not to bash the Disastros - they weren't first with this idea. I think it started with Colorado and/or Atlanta (at least at the major league level).

If teams want to market to people of faith that's great, but include more than one faith.

7. I think a lot of ball clubs in the South do it
First time I heard of it, it was a minor league club — maybe the Colorado Springs SkySox. But that doesn't mean they weren't already doing it in the majors.

8. I don't mind marketing to church groups, but market to ALL of them
After all, everyone's money is green.

But this special treatment for one religion has got to stop. Of course, if we complain, then we're persecuting Christians. :eyes:

11. IT'S RIGHT-WING PROTESTANT CHRISTIAN NIGHT!
What bugs me is that it is always some right wing Christian protestant thing, not anything liberal and/or Catholic about it.

9. Well, to be fair about it
It was probably prodded on by local churches, and if not it is simply a way to attract more people to the ball park and since most people relate to the christian faith it makes mathematical sense.

If the local mosque wants to sponsor such a night, or think they should be included then they should approach the club and ask about it.

All in all, it's basic stats - just like baseball :)

Islam night at any major league stadium would make nickel beer night look like a tea party... the NON-Muslims would make such a stink, I mean.
