49. I love soy yogurt.
If you buy the large tubs, then after you open it some of it might separate and you get some water on top. Just pour it off and the rest is still fine. I have never noticed a problem with the texture of fresh soy yogurt.

I stay away from any diet/light/reduced/free/low products but the 8 oz raspberry Columbo yogurt in my fridge has 220 calories and 42 carbs. Most of their light yogurt are about 120 calories.

8. Not if you get non-fat or low-fat plain yogurt with active cultures.
I have it every morning with fresh berries, walnuts, flax meal and a little agave nectar to sweeten it a bit. Sometimes, for a change of pace, I might add some unsweetened coconut, oats, fresh peaches, or mango.

But yes, I do get a chuckle when I see those yogurts, loaded with sugar, that come with oreo bits and sprinkles. What are people thinking when they eat that?

11. Yogurt, much like violence, is also self-perpetuating.
The smallest amount of yogurt introduced to perfectly normal milk will, in time, turn the entire milk, erm.... the entire... milkness... to yogurt.

19. Nope. Here's some convenient instructions.
And, if you're worried about nutrition, use 1 or 2% milk. Then the yogurt will have the same nutritional properties as 1% milk. A lot better for you without the sweeteners the store brands use, and then you can sweeten it to taste with honey or maple syrup.

Yogurt is one of the most nutritional foods in the world. The stuff you buy in stores has preservatives added to it reducing its health properties and increasing the cost. Yogurt is a bacteria that spreads throughout a suitable culture at the correct temperature. Begin by going to a Turkish or Syrian restaurant and buying some yogurt to go. Some restaurants boast of yogurt that goes back over a hundred years. Put it in the refrigerator. ***Note: You don't have to go to said restaurant. Unlike 1971, you can now find preservative-free yogurt in most supermarkets, which work quite well.***

Now prepare the culture in which the yogurt will multiply. The consistency you want will determine what you use. A milk culture will produce thin yogurt, while sweet cream will make a thicker batch. It's the butter fat content that determines the consistency and also the number of calories. Half milk and half cream combines the best of both worlds. Heat a quart of half and half on a low flame until just before the boiling point and remove from the stove. This knocks out other bacteria that will compete with the yogurt. Now take a tablespoon of the yogurt you got from the restaurant and place it in the bottom of a bowl (not metal). Now add the warm milk/cream. Cover the bowl with a lid and wrap tightly with a heavy towel. Place the bowl in a warm spot such as on top of a radiator or in a sunny window.
***Note: I used a heating pad, or whatever you call those things you plug in and put on a cramped muscle.*** A turned-off oven with a tray of boiling water placed in it will do well. Just let the bowl sit for about 8 hours (overnight).***Note: I found it took up to 24 hours, not 8.*** The yogurt simply grows until the whole bowl is yogurt. Yippie! It will keep in the refrigerator for about two weeks before turning sour, but even then, the bacteria will produce a fresh batch of top quality. Remember when eating it to leave a little to start the next batch. For a neat treat add some honey and cinnamon and mix into the yogurt before serving. Chopped fruit and nuts are also good.

we also like goat milk yogurt 1 cup is 4 WW points. I sometimes have maybe 1/4 cup when I just want a little something or if my tummy feels blah; it is very soothing.

There are lots of 100 calorie yogurts out there.

21. It's much healthier to buy plain yogurt, then add your own fruit (fresh or frozen)& a wee bit of
honey or sugar.

All kinds of chemicals, sugar, and other crap get added to the flavored yogurts (they also usually add gelatin to the flavored kind, which makes it non-vegetarian. And also scares me re: MadCowDisease.)

Favorite around here is raspberry (just takes a few seconds to thaw a few raspberries) or raspberry-banana. Delicious! Really doesn't take long to do-it-yourself.

29. usually it doesn't have added sugar
even the large tubs of vanilla are usually not as sweet as the small cups, plus they are cheaper and less wasteful (packaging).

Yogurt is not necessarily "unhealthy" but all the crap they add to it is, and even then in moderation it's not that bad.

45. My container of Dannon Lowfat Plain yogurt contains only cultured grade A reduced fat milk and
pectin.
NO added sweeteners.
The vanilla, however, contains plenty of added sugar (or HF corn syrup - don't have a carton here to look at), vanilla, and IIRC, plenty of other crap. This may be the only "flavored" kind that doesn't contain gelatin, but I don't recall for sure.

47. That's exactly what I do. I bring my yogurt to work with me every morning and
all my coworkers ooh and ahh over it. Non-fat Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries, walnuts, agave nectar and flax meal is my favorite. But I also do blueberries, black raspberries, blackberries, peaches, strawberries, and mango. Sometimes I add unsweetened coconut, almonds, or oats for a twist. I never get tired of it and in one meal I can have 4-6 of the foods listed on every single one of those Super food lists.

180 calories per one-cup serving
6 grams fat
16 grams of carbohydrates

available at my friendly neighborhood food co-op

Especially delicious with Indian food or dollopped on top of soup or chili.

But those commercial products that are basically candied cereal with a bit of overly sweetened yogurt?
