Man Could Face 15 Years In Prison & Register As Sex Offender For Mooning Family In Car

SANFORD - A family driving west on Interstate 4 in a silver Mercedes-Benz on Sunday evening made the men in the black Chevrolet Tahoe mad.

The Mercedes had cut them off, the Tahoe's driver later told a Seminole County deputy, so front-seat passenger John Thomas Taylor dropped his pants and mooned the family, including their 14-year-old son, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

Taylor, 21, was arrested and hauled to jail, accused of committing a lewd and lascivious act in the presence of a child younger than 16.

He was being held Monday evening without bail in the Seminole County Jail.

He was not eligible for bail because Taylor also was accused of violating probation. Last month, he was placed on 18 months of probation for driving without a valid license in Orange County.

If convicted of the charge alleged by the Sheriff's Office, Taylor could face up to 15 years in prison and forever be identified as a sex offender.

White said his office might charge Taylor with exposing himself, a misdemeanor that would carry a maximum sentence of a few months in jail.

Seriously, I'm a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I have no sympathy for predators whatsoever but I think we've crossed a line in our zeal to punish "sex offenders." First of all, this isn't a sex crime and to call it one is an insult to anyone who has ever been a victim of a real sex crime. Secondly, we've set up a system where there is no atonement, no chance at EVER getting a normal life back after being labeled a sex offender. Again, I'm going to play the victim card and say that I'll never get my "normal" life back again either. I'll always be haunted by my past. BUT even with that being true I don't think it's right to never allow the criminal a chance at rehabilitation, never get a chance to finish paying for their crime and move on and become a productive member of society. "Cruel and unusual" punishment indeed. Sometimes I think, even though I'm adamantly opposed to the death penalty, that it would be more humane to execute them than to banish them to a life of being shunned. This is just another symptom of how seriously fucked up America is.

i read about a recent case where (before there was media and public outrage) there was a possibility of 10 years prison and sex offender status because 2 7th graders smacked other 7th grader's asses while walking down the hall at school.

Now, these kids had already been suspended; but the DA decided to quite possibly RUIN THE REST OF THEIR LIVES for realy no reason.

Sex offenders never ever pay off their crimes, which is a whole different issue for me. But when they don't differentiate between a child molester and a guy who moons people...
