Rachel Zoe: The gal behind all those super skinny celebs including LIndsey, Nicole & Paris
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/article648756.ece\\Fashion's No 1 stylist, or just a great big zero?
PROFILE Rachel Zoe

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe swept into London last week to find a city poised to loathe every inch of her infamous size 0 frame. The great weight debate had rumbled through fashion week and was reaching a climax just as Zoe — an American fashionista the Los Angeles Times once claimed was “single-handedly bringing anorexia back” — hit town. It couldn’t have been more awkward if Glenn Hoddle had turned up at the Paralympics.
Zoe — her name rhymes with faux — put a brave face on things. “I love London so much,” she simpered to guests at designer Julien Macdonald’s pre-show bash at the Sanderson hotel on Wednesday. “I’d move here if it weren’t for the weather. I’m the palest I’ve been in ages.”

Being pale simply doesn’t cut it with the former fashion journalist. Neither do baggy jeans, trainers, small sunglasses or, God forbid, body fat. Zoe, 34 (unkind fashion types insist she looks 10 years older) is a stylist and for the past 18 months the look she has devised for her long list of celebrity clients — pin thin, orange tan, tousled mane; think Brigitte Bardot on crack — has come to define modern beauty.

For those not up to speed, being a stylist means Zoe helps famous people (mostly young actresses such as Cameron Diaz and Kate Beckinsale) choose what to wear to red carpet events, photo shoots or sometimes just to their local Starbucks. She charges $6,000 a day for this privilege. No wonder the closets of her Beverly Hills home boast more than 400 coats and “literally countless” pairs of shoes.

Though not a designer, photographer or magazine editor, Zoe has become one of the most powerful women in fashion. The ensembles she chooses for “my girls” fill the pages of magazines such as OK! or Heat and add millions to the profits of her designer friends, who adore her.

But her most devoted clients, such as Nicole Richie, Keira Knightley and wild child actress Lindsay Lohan, are decidedly scrawny and all battle speculation about their weight. Known as the Zoe-bots, they have matching toothpick arms and sunken faces barely able to support the fashionably enormous sunglasses their svengali encourages them to wear.

To her detractors Zoe — who weighs no more than a kitten herself — has therefore replaced Kate Moss as the number one culprit for society’s collective eating disorder. Some say she is the architect of size 0 mania — a fad for super skinniness that is spreading from Zoe’s home town of LA around the world.

1. Hm. That story + this one =
Well, I don't know if it "equals" anything, but it's definitely interesting:

Lindsay Lohan Is Hard Up For Cash

2. Zoe tries to make all the girls look just like her.
Lindsey Lohan has the most incredibly beautiful natural hair color. When she bleached her auburn hair blond I was like WTF?? Then I found out it was because of Zoe creating replicas of herself (blond stringy hair skeletons).

3. "Celebrity stylist" should have an asterisk next to it.
She's been accused of using clenbuterol, a bodybuilding drug.

*snicker*

4. They all look alike to me.
If the following young women had even a single original thought between them, I would be extremely surprised.

Rachel Zoe

Lindsey Lohan

Paris Hilton

Nicole Richie

Mary Kate and Ashley Olson

7. I think if you combine the weight of all of them combined...
...they might almost weight 100lbs

I don't know what's sadder - Rachel Zoe trying to make an army of anorexic twits or the fact that these celebrities are paying her thousands of dollars to basically commit slow suicide.

8. Sad all the way around, in my opinion.
To be honest, I don't believe any of these women are genuinely stupid. They're just look and act that way; why, I couldn't say.

9. Anyone who feels they have to starve themselves to death....
sometimes via a Equine Steriod, replace food with nicotine and do a makeover that's almost identical to half a dozen other starlets who happen to be using the same exact startlet doesn't rate very smart on my book.

There are plenty of other gals in that same age bracket who have successful careers while still maintaining their identity. Yesterday I used Anna Paquin (Rogue from "X-Men" series) as a perfect example. The gal already has an oscar and yet she still stays true to herself even 12 years after winning the award.

10. More on Rachel Zoe...
Anna Nicole’s body lands endorsement deal for diet regimen

New York Times
February 28, 2007

A spokesperson for Anna Nicole’s estate announced today that Anna Nicole’s corpse had accepted a lucrative endorsement deal for a controversial weight-loss system.

The deceased celebrity will be featured in ads with the slogan "Forget Trim-Spa®, baby! Try Death®!"

Officials at Death® were reportedly delighted to have Anna Nicole’s corpse sign on as the face and body of Death®. An unnamed Death® spokesman called Anna Nicole’s demise “timely, and a win-win for all.”

Famed Hollywood style guru Rachel Zoe is excited about the new Death® diet regimen and intends to recommend it to her clients. "This is definitely the culmination of a fashion trend," Zoe said. "Skeletal is the way to go. Bulimia can only take you so far, you know. So far, we’ve focused on eliminating every speck of body fat. But to be truly fashionable, you need to get rid of that troublesome flesh and muscle as well."

The announcement has already created a positive buzz in the fashion industry. "Everyone knows the clothing of all the top designers is designed to be worn by skeletons," said Gerard LeBeau, designer for Chanel.

But isn’t it wrong to encourage women to resort to decomposition to lose weight?

LeBeau believes the trend is a necessity in the high pressure world of haute couture. "Designers prefer skeletons on the runway because clothes just naturally hang better on skeletons. We can’t very well have breasts and derrieres causing unsightly lumps in our clothing."

With Anna Nicole’s body on board, Death® is poised to become the next big trend in Hollywood. Both Nicole Ritchie and Lindsay Lohan have expressed interest in starting the Death® regimen. Some anonymous sources have said that Paris Hilton has already been on the plan for several years now.

older than 34. Maybe the tan, maybe not enough food, but she looks worn.

27. Can't believe the Zoe woman's 34.
I'm almost 33, and I bet people would say I look 10 years younger than her.

But then again, I outweigh her by 50 lbs at least. My extra "fluff" might not be so socially acceptable these days (in part thanks to the influence of bitches like these pictured here), but it has kept me from looking like a dried-up, elderly husk in my early 30s. That's something, I guess.

I don't want to be fat or old-looking, but if I had to make a choice, I think I'd pick fat. I don't want to be 34 going on 65.

11. Here's another picture of Rachel Zoe.

I do think she looks older than 34, and I also think a little weight on her would erase that "older" look.

12. Holy crap, yes, she's 3 years younger than me and she looks way older.
At first I was surprised she hasn't had 800 cosmetic surgeries, but then I realized there probably isn't enough flesh on her body.

16. She does look old.
I'm 61, and my wrinkles and creases aren't nearly that bad.

But then, I probably weigh twice as much as she does!

13. Has she had cheek implants?
Hard to believe it's possible to see her ribs(!) and yet her face looks pretty full. I never would've guessed she's only 34, either.

25. Rachel Zoe looks horrible
She looks like those armies of tanned Fla ladies from the 70s, skinny w/ leathery skin.

She looks like a dried up old prune.

I'm 45 and I look way younger than her.

21. Why oh why
Is that considered fashionable and emulation-worthy? I get angrier and angrier about this shit every day. My 6 year old daughter asks me at least once a week "Mommy, am I too fat?". Fuck that noise. That chick looks like an old saddle rode hard and thrown on the dung heap. Since when are people orange??

22. ... a psychoanalyst's dream client !!
Obviously Body Dismorphic Disorder, or some kind of 'self-hate' or issues with the classic female shape/equipment going on with that woman.

Ewww. I'd almost feel bad for her, if she wasn't making money fucking up other people's heads and warping other young women's self-images with her blather. :(

31. She's beyond thin
There are many people who are naturally thin and healthy. You can tell they're healthy by looking at them. Zoe does not look healthy at all. Too many cigarettes and not enough nutrients? She looks FAR older than her age. If she was naturally thin, wouldn't her body have aged more gracefully? I mean, my mom is five years older and looks twenty years younger than she does.
