What the FUCK?
Two or three months ago, we get this notice in our driveway (notice slipped into a baggie, weighted down with gravel and then tossed at the end of the driveway) that they were going to resurface our street. That gravel resurfacing thingie where they spread gravel, even it out, smoosh it down and then seal it...and they did that while they were putting in new curbs at some of the intersections in the neighborhood so they had to make several trips to get it completely done.

Now they're tearing the new surface up and doing it again.

What the fuck?

Our tax dollars at work.

1. Around here - they generally schedule sewer work for 2-3 months after road work
Which means all the new roads have to be torn up to access the pipes. I really don't think the various public works departments ever talk to one another...

2. The last time they tore the street up like this
was two or three years ago. A few months later, a water main went kablooey.

5. And I'll bet the town or county knew the water main was due for replacement,
but didn't bother to adjust the schedule to fix it when the street was being done.

It would be laughable if we weren't paying for it... (Actually, it is laughable - just in a dark, wry, chuckley sort of way.)

6. Oh, heaven forFEND
they should replace a water main before it floods a neighborhood. I mean, that would save money, water, aggravation...

How would they sleep at night?

7. Of course - if you didn't see them responding to catastrophes,
how would you know you were getting your money's worth?

Smooth, quiet, behind-the-scenes efficiency is all well and good, but it's tough to justify a bloated budget without some well-publicized emergencies...
