Poll question: Best Star Trek Doctor?
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 01:17 AM by LostInAnomie
Edit: I know I didn't include Dr. Pulaski, but that's because she sucked. No intelligent person would ever say Pulaski!

3. I really wanna go with Bones
especially the one from the eponymous TV show

but I gotta admit he lost almost as many patients as Quincy. "He's dead, Jim."

9. Pulaski so did not suck!
She was a salute to the original series in so many ways. Plus, a strong older woman as a regular was totally cool!

15. Quite!
She was a much maligned; said to be a mere McCoy ripoff... later Doctors were rather more ripoffs of McCoy, but by then nobody cared.

I feel sorry for Diana Muldar.

18. I think she sucked...
Mostly because she often came off as a bitch, especially when dealing with Data.

25. Her characters in both LA Law and Star Trek really rubbed viewers the wrong way.
There was a negative, antagonistic quality that turned me off, at least.

26. Every time I see her I think of that episode...
... where that strategy expert plays Data at stragagema(sp?) and she tells Data to "Bust him up". Well, Data gets beaten and it throws him into an existential crisis where he doubts everything he's ever done. He eventually gets over it and goes back and beats the guy. Then, when the crowd is congratulating him Pulaski asks Data something and Data's reply is "I didn't beat him... I busted him up", and then the crowd erupts in an after school specialesque cheer that closes out the episode.

That's why I dislike her. For that stupid ending, and for introducing "bust him up" into Data's vocabulary.

Rational, nope. But, that doesn't change anything.

27. Pulaski was far and away the best doctor
She was the only one where I actually believed she was doing something other than waving a flashing, buzzing toy around to magically heal the patient. Her character also struck me as more of a genuine scientist than most other characters in the show...

13. beverly crusher actually seemed to be around to do more than just make doctor or mccoy jokes
It's kind of sad that Julian Bashir hasn't gotten any votes, but that's probably because he spent so much of his time looking like a sad puppy because Dax wouldn't screw him.

22. A little love for Phlox here.
He's my wife's favorite Enterprise character, by far. I don't know about that, but he was a convincing alien, with a lotta wisdom. Phlox rox!

30. The episode with the Organians really won him points IMO
Faced with a pair of nigh-omnipotent energy-based entities, Phlox had the integrity to castigate them for their callous disregard for the suffering of others. It was a crystalizing moment IMO that clearly established him as a healer.

It's on par with Bones' "choke me or cut my throat" moment when Khan had the scalpel to his jugular.

34. I just watched that episode the other night
I had it saved on my DVR. I really like Phlox. I also thought that was a great moment.

I voted for McCoy for nostalgic purposes. Beverly Crusher is cool too. But I'm partial to Enterprise.

for his very believable anguish at being unable to save the Klingon ambassador in Star Trek VI.

Beverly Crusher it is--especially after she lost those 150 unsightly pounds of Wesley.
