'Nerd' insult leads to trailer fire

A dispute that started in an online chat room has led to prison time for a Virginia man. Russell Tavares, 27, of King George County was apparently mad because a man called him a nerd.

He then drove to Texas and set the man’s mobile home on fire. No one was injured, but the man’s trailer was a total loss. A judge sentenced Taveres to seven years in prison.

He took a picture of himself in each state he passed through, posting it on his Web site. The photo of him by the Texas welcome sign was dated Oct. 9. Tavares’ Waco-based attorney, Susan Kelly Johnston, said she was unaware whether her client intentionally came to Waco to seek revenge on Anderson or if he took a detour to Waco on his way from Virginia to his parents’ home in Arizona.
