iTunes really needs a "clean up the shit" function |

But then, God forbid Apple should ever put out any software or computer that actually does what YOU want it do, and doesn't do what IT just assumes you need done.
:eyes:
All I want to do is take out all the listings that are no longer associated with specific files. I just moved a ton of folders around to further organize my music collection before porting over the other thousands of files from my desktop, so I can then put them all together on my new external drive, and of course, none of the "links" in iTunes works any more.
It would be really handy if I could go "take out all listings that don't have files associated with them any more", but then why would Apple bother to do that? They assume their users are too fucking stupid to know where the files are actually located, anyway, let alone move them around. "Why would you want to move folders around? Why would you want to know what folder your music is in? Apple will take care of it for you so you don't have to worry about it!"
Fuckers.
Now, so far as I can tell, I have to go through them one at a time and get rid of the 2000 links that no longer work before telling iTunes to re-add them all.

So, you moved the files around, and wonder why the links arent working anymore?
gee, who could have seen that coming...
Easy fix, let iTunes organize your music folder.

3. Bwuhahahahahaha! You have totally misread. |
|
No, obviously I know the links don't work, and why they don't work. I spelled that out in my post.
The problem is, iTunes doesn't have an easy way of getting rid of them all before I rebuild the library.
And no, I won't let some fucking software organize something for me. I take control of my own files and folders, so I know where they are, because sometimes I use other software, or need to do something with a file.

6. It doesn't take out the ones that are no longer valid |
|
Or, if it does, it needs a setting somewhere that I can't find.

9. That's what I think! Lots of ways to add stuff, no way to take stuff off. |
|
Other than to use the delete button.
:grr:
I think I'll just delete it all, and start over, but I have some stuff that I *didn't* move that I will then have to hunt down and find because they aren't in my music catalog folder area.
Damn Apple software.

8. Delete the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. |
|
Add them back in manually, drag folders onto the iTunes icon to add them back. I will assume you are on a Mac because you know so much about Macintosh users. Or too fucking lazy to tell us what OS you are using.
